instead of watching 2 hours of Netflix tonight, watch this Stanford lecture
it's the clearest explanation I've seen of how ChatGPT and Claude actually work
useful whether you've never touched AI in your life or have been using it every day for the past year
I took the key ideas and turned them into a practical guide on how to actually get 100% out of Claude

The ceasefire is on. The world’s media is in Israel and we have spent much time understanding the suffering of the hostage families. But the journalism in Gaza is being done only by surviving Palestinian journalists. The world’s media must be allowed into Gaza now to report the suffering there too. That wasn’t in the deal. We wait.
This map tells you how a seemingly innocent difference, like wheat vs rice eating, can have dramatic political, economic, and cultural ramifications:

She lives with her multimillionaire banker husband in Wimbledon.
Kemi claims £36,400 a year for rent & council tax for a second home in Essex.

"What is collapsing in Gaza is not just infrastructure. It is the principle that even war has rules. When those rules are waived for allies, no one is safe."

How handy having our journalists in Israel but not in Gaza is that every bit of destruction, injury and death in Israel is humanised, whereas the stuff going on in Gaza, is all seen through the lens of 'as alleged by Hamas', from which we should assume it's all lies. Apparently.
A reminder that even now, at the peak of Iran's attack, many more innocent people are being killed in Gaza than in Israel, and that you won't read a word about them in any Western news source. It's as if they are invisible, or at least regarded as subhuman, by our newsrooms
Thank you, thank you, thank you Dr @Tanyaalih for your courage, passion and eloquence.
Watch EVERY MINUTE of this extraordinary interview about the grotesque murder of 9 siblings in Gaza.
I just don't know how she holds it together. /1
Plan for Lab front bench: keep saying you're working for a two state solution in the Middle East, while aiding and supplying a regime that is working towards a one-state from the sea to the river. That way we'll be convinced you're the good guys.
We're appalled by more reports that Israeli airstrikes have killed children in Gaza this week, including strikes on hospitals and displacement camps.
Every day, more children are killed as Israel intensifies its lethal assault on Gaza.
The UK Government has enabled these attacks by continuing to approve the supply of arms transfers to the Government of Israel and granting Israel with the impunity to continue committing atrocities in Gaza.
How many more devastating headlines do the public have to read before our government takes action?
The UK must act now to end its complicity, including by suspending all arms transfers to the Government of Israel and holding all perpetrators of violations accountable.
The UK must not be an ally to Israel's atrocities.
1 in 5 of the UK’s care workforce have a non-British passport.
Starmer would have us believe these carers are the “squalid” result of a “failed experiment”.
I say they do vital, necessary, humane, skilled work and they are worth their weight in gold.
Harvard has set an example for other higher-ed institutions – rejecting an unlawful and ham-handed attempt to stifle academic freedom, while taking concrete steps to make sure all students at Harvard can benefit from an environment of intellectual inquiry, rigorous debate and mutual respect. Let’s hope other institutions follow suit.
Superb piece by the brilliant Rashid Khalidi
Does Columbia still merit the name of a university?
Columbia has long been run more as a business empire than as an educational institution. Now it’s acting like Vichy on the Hudson

"This is a nightmare scenario for them"
Journalist Mehreen Khan tells #Newsnight that JD Vance vocalising the Trump administration's support for the German far-right AfD party is an attempt at "divide and rule", at a time when Europe is "uniquely vulnerable".
Jews say NO to ethnic cleansing! We’re proud to see so many members of the JVP Rabbinical Council represented among the 350 rabbis who took out this full-page ad in the New York Times today, using their voices in this moment to oppose Trump’s plans for the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in Gaza.
There's a report in today's Times which says that Jewish artists (of all kinds) are being frozen out of British cultural life. I wonder if the authors are investigating what pro-Palestinian artists (of all kinds) have experienced.
