Today in Geneva, I delivered Somalia’s statement at the **63rd regular session of the UN Human Rights Council**, highlighting the significant progress Somalia has made in strengthening its national human rights framework.
I spoke about the establishment and operationalization of the Independent National Human Rights Commission and the progress made by the Federal Government in fulfilling its human rights commitments.
After decades without reporting to the Human Rights Council, Somalia’s return to this important international human rights process marks a historic milestone and reflects our growing national capacity, ownership and commitment to advancing and protecting human rights.
I extend my sincere appreciation to all national institutions, partners and stakeholders whose support and dedication have contributed to reaching this important moment.
#Somalia's progress in state-building must not result in human rights protection gaps, @UNHumanRights told the @UN Human Rights Council during its 63rd session in Geneva.
The UN Transitional Assistance Mission in Somalia (@UNTMIS_) winds down by the end of October 2026.
