Temporal Segregation: the separation of communities by time-of-day—such as in shift-work (which is most often performed by racial minorities) or queer nightlife.
Temporal segregation contributes to disparities in sleep & circadian health (credit to Dr. Jon Emens of OHSU’s CPCP).
this ended up being a very healing space with some of the most vulnerability i have seen in my two years leading workplace DEI initiatives.
MENA ERG’s leaders & I used what we learned in this meeting to write our university’s statement of solidarity (which went live on 10/15)
i am trying to expand the event to involve other ERGs and my Institute’s DEI initiative (which i still co-direct). i hope we can hold space for iranians while also showing that the iranian revolution for women’s rights affects the empowerment and autonomy of women everywhere.

i felt so lonely last week with everything happening in iran. i went to my first meeting w/ my university’s MENA Employee Resource Group, hoping for community.
i suggested we host an event to hold space for women and iranian-americans—and all employees “living on the hyphen”
the virtual event is on October 12th at 12 PM and will focus on women’s autonomy worldwide.
i was honored when the MENA ERG asked me to be on the panel to give perspective on workplace equity & first-generation employee experiences of placemaking in academia.
i had so much fun presenting Applying Total Worker Health®️ for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion with @AnjaliR_PhD and Nichole Guilfoy at @HEROehm’s HWHC Committee last week #HEROHealth
so proud present our work from the OHSU Clinical Physiology & Chronology Program with others from the Shea & Bowles labs this week.
my travel was supported by SRBR for the second biannual conference in a row! #SRBR2022
BREAKING: JAMA's Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Howard Bauchner, has stepped down after JAMA published a racist tweet and podcast.
Changing one person will *not* change JAMA.
They still need to do the hard, uncomfortable structural work to combat racism.

the @AAMCtoday Fee Assistance Program has ghosted me and many others in order to prevent us from receiving the FAP benefits in time—upsetting but hardly surprising
I no longer entertain the idea of Imposter syndrome because it feels like a career gaslighting.
Women and other underrepresented groups aren't suffering entirely from imposter syndrome; they're suffering in a system that wasn't designed with their success in mind.
this is certainly not the first time i have felt excluded (or otherwise distressed regarding my background) throughout the medical school application process.
another day, another unnecessary barrier for many potential physicians from underrepresented groups.
AAMC’s fee assistance program is perfectly accessible for those who have access to both parents’ tax forms—not for folks like myself with a parent living/working outside the US.
for background, their policy is to have applicants with “extenuating” (read: non-traditional but perfectly common) familial circumstances submit a claim to multiple emails, with no process for forwarding information between the emails. this is an exclusive practice.
