You Don’t NEED a Portfolio
A portfolio is OVERRATED.
It won't get you your dream client.
Don’t believe me?
Sam P Dunn, a well known editor who has scaled his editing beyond $10k/m,
WITHOUT A portfolio.
What’s his secret?
He knew he couldn’t just send his portfolio like 99% of editors do,
He took the time to re edit their videos and transformed them into masterpieces.
Making himself stand out.
That’s how he got his first high-ticket client.
Thinking a portfolio is gonna get you to $10k/m
Is ridiculous.

You’ve outreached to hundreds of potential clients but none want to work with you,
Don’t worry, we’ve all been there.
I used to sit at my computer outreaching for HOURS.
I sent over 100 DMs A DAY,
but no one responded.
I looked back at all 100 messages and thought,
Do they need me? Is it beneficial for them to work with me? Can I help them?
I had to be brutally honest with myself,
The answer was no they didn’t need me, no they wouldn’t benefit from working with me, no I couldn’t help them.
This is why MANY EDITORS don’t get clients.
Your outreach isn’t the problem, it’s who you’re outreaching to.
Do your research.
Message someone that would value your service.
Do you think they care about your video editing skills?
NO.. they only care about how it benefits them.

STOP using After Effects..
2 months ago, during my editing career, I would always see these amazing Iman Gadzhi animations posts on twitter.
It made me think for hours whether or not I should start learning advanced Motion Design.
I was overthinking so much I decided to get an opinion from a very experienced video editor.
He told me to send over some of my recent edits, and he said this: “bro you shouldn’t even be thinking about moving into after effects.”
Later that day I was looking through my edits and realized,
I still needed lots of practice on premiere pro.
So,
My advice to new editors who are looking to get into After Effects,
Don’t.
There's still plenty of practice you need to do.

Omar
