I sincerely thank Mirwaiz Sahab for raising his voice against the opening of wine shops in general, and the proposed outlet at Pantha Chowk in particular. His intervention has lent weight to the genuine concerns and sentiments of the people.

I had participated in the protest on the previous Friday and was detained the following day. My detention, however, is inconsequential. What matters is that despite the pressure and attempts to make us abandon this demand, we, along with many others, reached out to Mirwaiz Sahab to raise the issue.

It is, however, deeply unfortunate that the ruling dispensation led by the NC, including its elected representatives from the very constituencies where these outlets are proposed, has chosen not to express even customary or symbolic solidarity with the concerns of their own people. Such is the state of affairs in J&K today

In the middle of a public outreach programme in Dalgate, the inverter light went out , a cruel reminder of the reality people are living with. This household has been without electricity for almost 6 months. Six months of darkness, uncertainty and helplessness, while those in power continue to deliver speeches and photo-ops.

The much-hyped “One Time Settlement” promise made by the @JKNC_ in its manifesto is turning out to be one of the biggest betrayals of public trust. People voted with hope, believing relief would finally come to families crushed under mounting electricity bills and economic distress. Instead, they have been handed excuses, arrogance and complete indifference.

On one hand, families are battling unemployment, inflation and an unprecedented economic crisis. On the other, they are burdened with shockingly high electricity bills despite erratic supply and prolonged outages.

But remember he expects “HIS AUNTY CAN PAY AND SO CAN YOU”
