MD/CE of @nsitf | Championing workers' welfare & social security | Committed to a safer, inclusive workforce in Nigeria | Advocate for sustainable development
Thank you for raising this, Saudat.
A 3-week wait is not the standard we want to be known for, and your concern about a Lagos request being tied to Abuja processing is noted.
Please send your company name, registration details, and contact number by DM immediately. I will ask the Lagos team to look into this and provide clarity on your certificate status without delay.
We are also reviewing service processes to improve turnaround time and make access easier across locations.
Employers who care about their workforce invest in protection. Registering with NSITF helps businesses support their employees while maintaining stability in difficult moments. @nsitf
Workplace protection is not just a policy, it is a commitment to the people who keep organizations running every day. NSITF plays a key role in making that protection real. @nsitf
Supporting workers during difficult moments builds trust and resilience in the workplace. NSITF ensures that no worker faces the consequences of workplace injuries alone. @nsitf
Earlier today, I joined the national conversation on the need to do more for Nigerian women, whose contributions to our economy and society remain immense, even as many still face barriers to full advancement.
Women play indispensable roles across our homes, markets, farms, offices, and institutions. We must move beyond acknowledgment and continue building systems that promote inclusion, dignity, safety, and economic opportunity.
I align with the vision of @officialABAT President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, on inclusive growth and broader opportunities for all Nigerians.
At @NSITF, we remain committed to social protection, workplace safety, and fair treatment for every worker.
Over the past few days, we have taken a hard look at @nsitf performance and agreed clear reforms to strengthen Nigeria’s social security system, in line with @officialABAT President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Our focus: expand coverage (private and informal sectors), faster and more transparent claims, stronger governance and internal controls, tighter efficiency and financial discipline, and accelerated digital transformation with unified data and automated workflows.
We are implementing with timelines, measurable targets, and accountability.
Today in Abuja, I inaugurated the Local Organising Committee for the International Social Security Services Association (ISSSA) West Africa Technical Seminar 2026. This inauguration marks an important step in our collective preparations for a seminar of strategic significance, not only to @NSITF but to the wider goal of strengthening social security systems across West Africa.
As we work towards hosting our colleagues from across the sub-region and beyond on 25 April 2026, I want to recognise the continued focus of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on building stronger institutions, improving service delivery, and advancing inclusive development. That leadership context reinforces why NSITF must keep raising the bar in how we protect workers and support national productivity.
The theme of the seminar, *“Improving Inclusiveness and Accessibility of Social Security Services through Effective Communication in West Africa,”* speaks directly to the realities of our region. Our mandate goes beyond policy and administration. It includes ensuring that our services are understood, accessible, and responsive to every segment of society, especially the vulnerable and underserved.
This seminar will advance that mandate by promoting digitalisation, innovative communication strategies, and the use of digital and mobile technologies to expand coverage. It will also provide a strong platform for experience-sharing, peer learning, and the exchange of best practices among social security experts and institutions across West Africa.
I am confident that deliberations will deepen our understanding of digital transformation in social security administration, strengthen regional collaboration, and generate practical recommendations for extending coverage. For NSITF and Nigeria, it is also a valuable opportunity to enhance networking with regional and international partners, while showcasing Nigeria’s leadership and commitment to social security development.
To members of the Local Organising Committee, this is an honour and a responsibility. I urge you to embrace team spirit, remain fully dedicated, and deliver a seminar that reflects excellence. I wish you success as you commence this important assignment.
Today in Abuja, I was proud to join the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA), employers and safety champions from across the country at the NSITF–NECA Safe Workplace Intervention Project (SWIP) Abuja Mega Awards Ceremony, the grand finale of the 2025 SWIP programme.
Over the last 12 days, SWIP took us from our headquarters through key industrial centres, including Lagos and Enugu, to reinforce one clear message: Nigeria must move beyond treating workplace safety as a compliance exercise and entrench a true safety culture across every sector.
At @nsitf, our direction is deliberate. We are shifting from reactive compensation to proactive prevention. Preventing accidents and occupational hazards is always better than paying compensation after harm has occurred. Training, clear information, and consistent awareness are the tools that turn safety from a checklist into a habit, and from a policy into a shared workplace value.
I congratulate the 32 organisations recognised today for demonstrating that protecting workers can sit alongside productivity and profitability. This recognition is not an endpoint. It is a responsibility. I urge every award recipient to become a safety ambassador within your sector, and to help raise the standard of care across your supply chains and industry peers.
I also appreciate the strong support of the Honourable Minister of State for Labour and Employment, @nkeiruka_reps , for reaffirming that workplace safety is a legal obligation, not an option, and for her clear stance that negligence that endangers lives will not be tolerated.
Together with NECA and all stakeholders, NSITF remains committed to making safe work the Nigerian standard.
Proud to flag off the 2025 Safe Workplace Intervention Project (SWIP) with @NECASecretariat and @FMinLAbour. Growth isn’t sustainable without safe workplaces. We’re putting Nigerian workers’ safety at the heart of our Renewed Hope Agenda—making safe work the norm, not the exception. #SWIP2025
Today in Port Harcourt, my team and I met with Governor @SimFubaraKSC after presenting Employees’ Compensation Scheme cheques to beneficiaries in Rivers State.
The Governor described the Scheme as “a gift to Nigerian workers” and said @nsitf is projecting the Tinubu administration positively through real social protection for employees.
He pledged that Rivers State will prioritise full subscription to the Employees’ Compensation Scheme, starting with ensuring ECS compliance for the ongoing Government Secretariat renovation.
He also highlighted the Scheme’s role in reducing corruption by removing the fear workers face about their future when accidents or disability occur.
I thanked His Excellency for the warm reception and reiterated that ECS is a statutory safety net that strengthens productivity, resilience and transparency in the workforce.
NSITF looks forward to a strong partnership with the Rivers State Government in safeguarding the welfare of workers across the State.
Yesterday in Nnewi, Anambra State, I addressed leaders of trade associations, cooperatives & informal economy stakeholders on the theme:
“Extending the Employee Compensation Scheme to the Informal Economy.” 🇳🇬
Nnewi is a city of builders, where innovation turns bolts into businesses & small workshops into full-scale factories.
Here, work is not just survival.
It is tradition, legacy, and pride.
Across Nigeria, nearly 80% of our workforce operates in the informal sector, artisans, traders, drivers, mechanics, and market women, the heartbeat of our economy.
Yet, many work without safety nets.
If a trader is injured or a rider suffers an accident, who supports them ?
For too long, the answer has been no one.
That is what we at @nsitf are determined to change.
The Employee Compensation Scheme (ECS) ensures that when accidents happen at work, the worker is not abandoned.
This scheme is not charity, it is justice.
It is the social contract between labour and the nation, that those who build should not be broken by what they build.
Now, we are taking bold steps to extend this protection to the informal economy.
Protection should not depend on whether you work in an office or a marketplace.
Whether you are a shoemaker in Aba, a hairdresser in Awka, or a spare parts dealer in Nnewi, your work has dignity, and your life has value.
As we say:
👉🏾 “Eni ti o ba sise, ni o ma jeun” — only those who work deserve to eat.
But I add: those who work deserve to be protected.
And in the words of our Igbo brothers:
👉🏾 “Aka aja aja na-ebute onu mmanu mmanu.”
A hand smeared with mud will eventually taste oil.
Those who toil for Nigeria deserve the fruits of their labour, and protection when the unexpected happens.
To our leaders & cooperatives: take this message home.
Encourage your members to enroll under the Employee Compensation Scheme.
Because the difference between despair & recovery is often protection.
Nations are not only built on policies & plans; they are built by people, the creators, innovators & resilient hearts who never give up.
When we protect the hands that build, we secure our collective future.
When we empower the informal worker, we strengthen Nigeria’s economy.
Together, let’s build a country where every worker can say with pride:
“If something happens to me while I work, my country has my back.”

Earlier this week, I was delighted to welcome the Executive Governor of Katsina State, His Excellency, Mallam Dikko Umaru Radda @dikko_radda , to the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (@NSITF) Headquarters.
Our discussions centred on forging a strong partnership between the NSITF and the Katsina State Government, one that will drive the extension of social security coverage, improve workplace safety, and enhance the welfare of workers across the state.
We explored areas of collaboration that would ensure that businesses in Katsina, especially SMEs and the informal sector, benefit from the Fund’s various programs aimed at cushioning the impact of work-related injuries and promoting decent work conditions.
At the NSITF, we remain committed to building sustainable partnerships with state governments to ensure that every Nigerian worker, regardless of sector or location, enjoys the protection and dignity that social insurance provides.
“Subscribers will encounter a compassionate NSITF,”
I reiterated at the launch of #CustomerServiceWeek.

Statement by the Managing Director/Chief Executive, Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), Barr. Oluwaseun Faleye, on the Afriland Towers Fire
The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund mourns the tragic loss of lives following the fire incident at Afriland Towers, Broad Street, Lagos.
Our hearts go out to the bereaved families, the Federal Inland Revenue Service, United Capital Plc, UBA, Afriland Properties, and all organisations and colleagues affected.
We also commend the emergency responders and Lagos State authorities for their courage and swift action.
NSITF has activated its Lagos support desk to liaise with the affected employers, next of kin and relevant authorities, to ensure eligible employees and their families can promptly access relief under the Employees’ Compensation provisions. Our case officers are on hand to guide employers and families through incident reporting, claims documentation, and the delivery of benefits, including support for dependants and rehabilitation where applicable.
This solemn moment is a reminder of what NSITF stands for in times of workplace tragedy. We exist to provide a national safety net for employees and their families when occupational injuries, illnesses or fatalities occur, and to support prevention through better workplace safety practices.
We encourage all employers to take three immediate steps. First, review and strengthen your safety and emergency protocols, with particular attention to high-rise building risks and power-backup installations. Second, ensure that all incidents are reported promptly to NSITF so that support can be mobilised without delay. Third, confirm that your organisation is duly registered with NSITF and that Employees’ Compensation obligations are up to date, so that staff are fully covered at all times. These measures save lives, reduce risk and ensure that relief reaches those who need it most.
On behalf of the Board, Management and Staff of the NSITF, I extend our deepest condolences to all affected families and institutions.
May the souls of the departed rest in peace. We will continue to work with the Federal Government and the Lagos State authorities on every measure that can help prevent a recurrence and protect Nigerian workers.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of addressing the 65th Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Enugu on the theme: Enhancing Workplace Safety and Social Protection: The Role of the Employees’ Compensation Act (ECA) 2010.
I reminded our learned colleagues that work is not just an economic activity, it is central to human dignity and national progress. Yet, the paradox remains: the same factories that build our economy can expose workers to hazards; the same oil rigs that earn us foreign exchange can also cause occupational illnesses; the same construction sites that shape our skylines sometimes claim lives.
This is why the Employees’ Compensation Act, 2010 was a watershed. It replaced an outdated system with one that is modern, humane, and worker-centered.
📌It expanded protection to cover accidents, occupational diseases, permanent/temporary disabilities, and even mental health challenges.
📌 It introduced a pooled employer contribution system administered by @NSITF, ensuring quick, fair, and no-faultcompensation for workers, while also protecting employers from crippling lawsuits.
📌 It shifted our focus from litigation and blame to healing, dignity, and shared responsibility.
📌 It placed prevention, rehabilitation, and reintegration at the heart of Nigeria’s labour system.
But 15 years on, challenges persist:
📍 Low employer compliance, especially SMEs that form the backbone of our economy.
📍 Limited awareness, many workers do not know their rights under the Act.
📍 Under-reporting of accidents, driven by fear of sanctions or job loss.
📍 Changing work realities, the gig economy, remote work, AI, and automation bring new forms of risk.
I made a clear call to action:
Lawyers must lead by example, every law firm should comply with the ECA.
The NBA should demand evidence of compliance for SAN conferment, just as it does for pensions.
Policymakers must amend the Act regularly to capture new realities.
Employers must understand that safety is not a cost but an investment in productivity, loyalty, and industrial harmony.
At NSITF, we are already laying the foundation for the future:
Technology-driven solutions
e-certificates,
Digital reporting platforms,
Predictive data analytics.
Coverage for informal workers
Micro-contributory schemes to extend protection to the 80% of Nigeria’s workforce in the informal economy.
Culture of prevention
Workplace audits,
Compliance inspections,
Training, and deterrent sanctions for violators.
Global alignment, adopting ILO conventions and learning from best practices worldwide.
My message yesterday was clear:
The ECA 2010 is not just a law.
It is a covenant of dignity
A shield of protection, &
A beacon of social justice for the Nigerian worker.
A society that protects its workers protects its future. A nation that neglects them undermines its destiny.
The message is simple but urgent: A nation that protects its workers, protects its future. Together, we will build safe workplaces, protect families, and secure a stronger, fairer Nigeria.
Together, let us ensure that no worker leaves home in fear, no family is left in despair, and no Nigerian lawyer or worker is denied the safety net the law prescribes.
If we do this, we will not just compensate accidents, we will prevent them. We will not just write laws, we will write legacies.
I thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,@officialABAT for the opportunity and responsibility to steer this ship.
By God’s grace, we will deliver the #RenewedHope mandate and mantra to every Nigerian worker.
