Came across this excellent documentary about the development of the Koyna irrigation and hydroelectric project https://t.co/K3A4P11W9v

This is Maharashtra's largest dam by active storage, and the largest hydro-power plant (2nd largest in the country).

This project was first conceived over 100 years ago. Active work started in the 1950s and majority of the dam work was completed in the 1960s. The hydro-power work continued in multiple phases (latest phase operational in the 1980s/90s).

Presently, Koyna hydro-power has an installed capacity of around 2 GW. And an active water storage of about 105 TMC (2.8 cubic km).
