In 2009 Obama stepped up the, then secret, drone bomb program. Yemen was one of the main theaters for a covert CIA war. Back then, Obama was mainly targeting Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) It didn’t work and AQAP only grew stronger, but it did succeed in killing a bunch of innocent civilians, including at least one American teenager.

In 2015 things changed and Obama switched sides. We joined Al Qaeda in fighting the Houthis. In order to “placate the Saudis” the Obama administration backed their invasion, including refueling their fighter jets and helping to completely blockade the poorest country in the Middle East.

The level of brutality with which the Saudis conducted this conflict cannot be overstated, waging war on the people of Yemen for eight straight years, all with full US backing. Hundreds of thousands died.

This didn’t stop the Houthis who immediately jumped in the fight when Israel began its similar assault on Gaza.

The bottom line is that if all of that didn’t stop them, it’s a pipe dream to think a few tomahawk missiles will. We’re just killing people for no reason other than to feel tough. It was stupid and evil when Biden did it and it’s the same when Trump does it.

The good news is that the Houthis stopped their attacks during the ceasefire in Gaza, only to start again after it fell apart.

In other words, this is yet another cost of our policy to fund and arm Israel’s horrific treatment of the Palestinians. There is a diplomatic solution, but no military one, short of an invasion.

So Americas should decide what they want: A diplomatic solution or another catastrophic war in the Middle East. I like the first idea. It comes with the benefit of not murdering children.

Iran showed remarkable restraint in trying to avoid this conflict: initially, it asked the UN Security Council to condemn the attack on its territory, something that would be taken for granted if it were any other country, but the Zionist regimes of the US, UK and France refused.

If not for the capture of western governments by the Jewish Zionist lobby, Iran would have complete support on the international stage for exercising its right to defend itself.
