Between AK and AZ last month I hit 400 life birds. I like to be surprised when I hit a big number, so getting a pair of elegant trogon feeding babies for the big number was pretty dang cool.
Hey if you want to do a fun fruit fly experiment go birding all month in different states and leave a banana peel in your hot Chicago car, the fun part is trying to get them to out and the experiment is when do I lose my mind
@elora_grahame Really like darn tough and smart wool for winter, but I’ve been using a pair of higher merino bombas brand socks this summer and I like them a lot for warmer weather
At least I squeezed in one survey before this rain started! Not looking great for anything else before the end of the month, but hopefully this ends the drought 🤞
@4letterbird I’d be more hopeful if that was the only thing broken, but I’ve put these through the wringer, I think they’re more of a replace than a repair 😂
Two pairs of pied-billed grebes? In MY wetland?? It’s more likely than you think. (Didn’t realize the nest was there until I was almost on top of it, 15 feet away from a busy road and right in front of the only place I can put a kayak in, silly birds)
Year two of our Big Marsh bird banding station has begun!
This weekend the team was out from just before dawn till midday, diligently collecting data on breeding birds and a handful of surprise late migrants as well.
**all birds handled with proper permits and training**
Today was the first day of MAPS banding at governors state! We got lots of great birds, including these two great crested flycatchers in the same net as a pair of indigo buntings on the very last net check. Hairdos!!!
