I just learned about "deep fake" and how it can be used in movies. I can see this technology being used to deny accountability to make it harder for the states to prove the videos were not altered or fakes!

This week in class we got to "play" with different converter tools! Really enjoyed this assignment, hope we get to experiment with more tools this semester!
PNG'ing an image from a lossy .JPG will not increase picture quality nor will converting a .mp3 to .wav file!!! You wont be able to SEE or HEAR any difference! #DIG550#Digital Preservation
1 gram of DNA can hold approx. 200 petabytes of data! The down side is the possible high costs and access time, (Ray, 2019). @DigitCurator#Digital Preservation
IN my #DIG550 class, I came across this fascinating article about art that was meant to "rot." When so many people are focused on preservation, this artist enjoys the exact opposite! https://t.co/bENqHLidcW
I see digital media as representing a certain time in history.. a time when we used mp3 players or cassette tapes.. we need to preserve that in order to learn about history, but also be prepared to recognize new technology and the advances that it will bring.
@basgla224 When testifying in court about digital media, we often refer to the "Best Evidence Rule," in order to use information attained from the media we analyzed. As the original media is unavailable, or can't be used, we typically use copies or images as verified by hash values.
I just found this great video on Youtube.. https://t.co/XcQvkcDmiP
I like the parallel made between "born digital" and there are a lot of different ways how digital devices can "die."
@jonippolito This is interesting and the first i heard of this. I wonder if there is software that can block/alert the user that this is happening? As i was reading, i wondered about their connection to cookies.. good article
@jonippolito@wetzel_curt So.. almost sounds like emulators are similar to the concept of WoW or WoW64 (windows on windows) in computers.. where legacy programs can run without changes on newer systems???
@RobbiSiegel I wonder if the choice to be centralized or individualized would be based on the volume, type, and if there are any financial barriers involved in preserving the data. I work with digital evidence (from crimes). I know we have looked at several options, but $ is a big factor!
