Big news! I am excited to announce that I've received an advance contract from Wayne State University Press to publish my research on fairy godmothers in Cinderella adaptations! The manuscript will go to the publisher this autumn, so hopefully you'll be able to read it next year!
@RHaccart@dieworkwear@timmolendijk Yes, precisely! They were not strict with the dress code for the guests and the wedding ended up looking and feeling amazing for everyone!
@IamWhiteHeat@dieworkwear@timmolendijk Yeah, it was more like, how would designers today interpret the Met Gala if the theme announced for 2025 were “1970s,” a bit like when they did “Gilded Glamour” in 2022 and used that period for inspiration
@dieworkwear@timmolendijk Attended a wedding with a theme of "1970s Meets Met Gala," but bride/groom provided a Pinterest board of inspiration and said they hoped guests would use the opportunity to tap into their own whimsy. It was a little stressful at first, but honestly, ended up as very fun!
there’s an ad playing during the olympics where a little girl wants to use ai to write a letter to her favorite athlete and…….. does that not take 99% of the ethos and feeling out of one of the most heartfelt concepts known to man? jfc
@NatashaHodgson I'll miss your newsletter! Listened to Song of Spider-man on your advice, was completely stuck in, loved it. Thanks for the recommendations!

-- which I just presented on at the ISFNR conference in Lativa! It was so wonderful to share my research on this story, as well as other versions of the Cinderella tale, at a conference. I can't wait to have this out in the world on a larger scale as a book!
This project is so close to my heart: I have been researching Cinderella adaptations since 2017 and I have compiled a list of hundreds of different adaptations, as well as Cinderella-adjacent stories, such as Jen Wang’s "The Prince and the Dressmaker" –
The past eight years of my life have been dedicated to this tale, these characters, this work. I really can’t wait to share everything I’ve learned about fairy godmothers and Cinderella adaptations with all of you in the next year or so!!!
I have so much I want to say about the 'Cinderella' story, its adaptations, why I believe the tale continues to resonate in contemporary society, and especially about Cinderella's magical helper.
Not necessarily linearly, as Vanessa Joosen beautifully argues, but still – layers of fairy tales, emerging in a range of fairy tale media, from books and film, to theatre, to video games, to adverts - fascinate me.
