The new patch has been out for a couple weeks now, and you know me I've always called it how it is regarding AoE2. I never shy away from giving criticism and I always try to push the game in the right direction. This time around though, there is no criticism from my end, only praise.

The dev team ABSOLUTELY SMASHED IT with the new patch.

- Infantry is fixed! Viable and strong but not overpowered
- New castles, monks and monasteries make the game feel so fresh and diverse, been loving this aspect
- Every civ now feels fun to play, we no longer have 10ish civs that are an insta loss on high elo ladder
- New units like rocket carts and fire lancers are NOT overpowered, but still feel strong in their own right
- New animations were weird at first, and still aren't perfect, but are a HUGE step in the right direction

I could go on, but the list is quite long. This new patch revived my love for the game, and I genuinely cant wait to hop in and play some ranked games. I know there's been some controversy regarding the new DLC and whatnot, and there's been some valid criticism on the table. For now though, I wanted to take a moment and thank the developers on their incredible work bringing out this new patch.

What a risky move to make all of those balance changes at once, and it feels like a lot of it could have ended up being overpowered and ruining the game, or maybe the balance wouldn't be quite there. I have to say though, it has worked itself out PERFECTLY. I could not have come up with those changes myself, despite playing this game for 13+ years. This proves that they really took their time with these changes, and poured a lot of passion and hard work into the thought process behind each decision.

That's exactly what made AoE2 so special in the first place, and 25 years later it is what will keep pushing us to new heights. A sincere thank you to everyone who worked on the new patch, and who works behind the scenes to keep AoE2 thriving!
