Pada 8 September 2025, terjadi pergantian Menkeu dari Sri Mulyani ke Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa. Salah satu komentar yang disampaikan Pak Purbaya saat itu adalah ekonomi kita salah arah, dan demo Agustus adalah cermin kondisi itu. Ia menjanjikan kebangkitan dan perbaikan ekonomi Indonesia.

Kini, 10 bulan berlalu. Survei SMRC menunjukkan hasil mengejutkan. 49,4% warga menilai kondisi ekonomi buruk/sangat buruk. Tren penilaian menunjukkan pemburukan, dari 22,7% di Nov 2025 menjadi 49,4% di Juli 2026.

Terdapat 45,8% warga yg menilai kondisi ekonomi sekarang lebih buruk/jauh lebih buruk dibanding tahun lalu. Sentimen positif thd kondisi ekonomi turun tajam, dari 45,2% di Nov 2025 menjadi 19,7% di Juli 2026.

Sebagai warga biasa, tentu saya berharap terjadi perbaikan kondisi ekonomi. Kasihan rakyat kecil-menengah. Survei ini juga beresonansi dg penilaian berbagai lembaga internasional yang kerap dirisak hanya karena hasilnya kurang sesuai selera, dan juga berkorelasi dg pelemahan nilai tukar rupiah dan IHSG.

What just happened?

At 9:45 AM ET, the S&P 500 was trading nearly +1.5% higher and tech stocks were sharply higher.

At 10:40 AM ET, selling pressure began to intensify without any major headlines in one of the biggest reversals of the year.

Just 2 hours later, President Trump said Iran shot down a US helicopter "last night" and that the US must "respond to this attack."

This sent the S&P 500 to a new low of the day, down 240 points since 9:45 AM ET.

In just 3 hours, the S&P 500 has erased -$2.1 trillion in market cap.

The undisputed valor of our troops and the tactical brilliance of our military operations do not equal strategic success.

If they did, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Libya, and Yemen would look very different today.

We can bomb and blockade Iran, or get dragged into something far worse, but none of it will force Iranian leaders to behave the way we want.

We can accept this reality now and clearly define what our actual interests are in the region, or we can be forced to accept it later—after losing more American lives and trillions of taxpayer dollars.

Yes, our military can sustain operations and crush any enemy in nearly any battle (while losing the war). But to what end? What’s in it for the American people?

It's foolish to think we can keep launching these senseless foreign interventions and maintain our status as the world’s most powerful nation.

On March 25, 1975, 1 year and 1 week after agreeing to lift the oil embargo OPEC had placed on the US, UK, Canada, Japan and the Netherlands in retaliation for the elaborate support given to Israel during during the Yom Kippur War, King Faisal of Saudi Arabia was shot and killed by his nephew, Prince Faisal bin Musaid Al Saud, after the Prince returned home to Saudi Arabia from studying at UC Berkeley and U Colorado, Boulder.

New: Some Trump officials privately acknowledge that the president’s public commentary has been detrimental to talks, noting the sensitivity of the negotiations and the Iranians’ deep mistrust of the US.

That was especially true on Friday, when the Pakistanis were in Tehran for talks with the Iranians. As the meeting played out, Trump took to Truth Social and spoke with several reporters, claiming Iran had agreed to a host of provisions that sources familiar with the talks said had not yet been finalized.

🔺 REPORT | With a second round of U.S.-Iran negotiations appearing set for Tuesday in Islamabad, Iran’s President, Foreign Minister, and lead negotiator all posted pointed warnings on X within hours of each other, each signaling that Tehran is entering talks from a position of strength.

◽️IRGC Aerospace Force commander Majid Mousavi said publicly on Sunday: “During the ceasefire, our speed in updating and replenishing missile and drone launch pads is even faster than before the war.”

The key revelations:

Trump used to call the Middle East "blood and sand" and wanted nothing to do with it.

Then Netanyahu gave him a "persuasive February briefing" in the Situation Room, backed by repeated calls from Lindsey Graham, and Trump changed his mind.

He thought it would be as easy as Venezuela.

Trump was "in awe" of the scale of the bombs, watching clips of explosions every morning.

But he did "little to sell the American public on the war" and grew frustrated when he didn't get praised for it.

His own team showed him midterm polling that proved the war was dragging down Republican candidates.

He "quickly began ruminating on how the military action could turn into a catastrophe."

On the Strait: Trump told his team before the war that Iran would "likely capitulate before closing the strait."

His advisers were "caught off guard" that tanker traffic stopped so quickly.

Trump later "marveled at the ease with which the strait was closed," saying "a guy with a drone can shut it down."

By late March, before the F-15 was even shot down, Trump ordered his team to find a way to start talks.

The war was already over in his mind weeks before the ceasefire.

His aides begged him to stop doing impromptu interviews because he was contradicting himself publicly.

He agreed to stop, then went right back to calling reporters.

The April 1 address to the nation was Susie Wiles' idea to "reassure the country Trump had a plan."

Trump didn't want to do it because, in his own words, he couldn't declare victory and didn't know where it was going.

This report paints a picture of a president who was talked into a war by Netanyahu and Graham, realized it was a mistake within weeks, spent the rest of the conflict looking for the exit, and was frustrated that nobody would give him credit along the way.

The war was an impulse, sold by an ally with different objectives, enabled by advisers who couldn't say no, and sustained by a president who was too proud to admit the mistake until the economy forced his hand.
