Rourkela Steel Plant disburses more than Rs 21.17 crores to 514 families relocated from its land to implement the forthcoming futuristic expansion

SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) is now geared up to implement a massive green field expansion on its land, adjacent to its current facilities which will enhance its production capacity from the current level of 4.65 Million Tons to 9.8 Million Tons per annum at an expenditure of more than Rs 30 thousand crores. To implement this futuristic expansion, the people living in the hutments on the identified land belonging to RSP are being provided with financial assistance along with other facilities like housing plot near Deogaon, contractual employment and medical facilities. Transit accommodation is also being extended to facilitate smooth transit.
So far, more than Rs 21.17 Crores have been handed over to the 514 families who have been relocated, while contractual employment has been provided to 200 persons. People living in 318 hutments have already shifted to transit accommodations or other places.
Development of a prime site near Deogaon is going on swiftly, where plots are being made ready along with infrastructure such as road connectivity, power, water supply, and drainage systems for handing over to the relocated hutment dwellers.
It is noteworthy that, currently RSP has a workforce of approximately 12,000 direct and 12,000 indirect individuals. Out of the regular employees, more than 87% persons hails from the state of Odisha, including about 28% of the total manpower from the Sundargarh district. In the world of heavy industry, a steel plant carries a powerful 1:10 multiplier effect, meaning for every one person working in the Plant, ten others find their living in the logistics and service sectors.
As the Steel Plant is poised for a monumental leap in its capacity, it will create a huge need for manpower, thereby creating a big employment opportunity for the local youth. Besides this phase of expansion will redefine the region's economic horizon once again, by triggering a transformation of local commerce, and ushering with it a wave of prosperity in the entire region.
SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has provided 1.45 lakh packaged 500ml water bottles, for supporting the drinking water requirements during the world-famous Rath Yatra festival in Puri.
The water bottles were officially handed over to the WATCO, Puri Sub Division by Mr. Dandeswar Thakuria, GM (Liaison Office) of RSP for distribution to the pilgrims
The bottles would be distributed free of cost to ensure health and wellbeing of the innumerable devotees who come to witness the festival.
