The Government of Uganda has announced the postponement of this year’s Martyrs’ Day celebrations as a precautionary measure to protect public health following concerns over an Ebola outbreak in parts of Eastern Congo.
According to H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the decision follows consultations with the national epidemic response task force and religious leaders, given the expected arrival of thousands of pilgrims from affected areas.
The President noted that the move is aimed at safeguarding the lives of Ugandans and all visitors who attend the annual religious gathering.
Citizens who had already begun travelling for the celebrations have been urged to return home, observe all recommended health precautions, report any suspected illness, and encourage those who are unwell to seek immediate medical attention.
Government emphasised that while the postponement may cause inconvenience, the protection of life remains the highest priority.
A new date for the celebrations will be communicated in due course.

This afternoon, I met the NRM Parliamentary Caucus at State House, Entebbe, and guided them on the FY 2026/2027 budget priorities and the importance of the Protection of Sovereignty Bill, 2025.
We agreed to prioritize peace and security, roads, electricity, the railway, scientific innovation, preparations for AFCON 2027, restocking in Teso, Lango and Acholi, and salary enhancement for teachers, TVET staff and security personnel to support Uganda’s socio-economic transformation and safeguard our national interests.
I spent the day in Gulu City attending a homecoming ceremony in honour of His Lordship Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny-Dollo. I thank him for his service to Uganda and salute him for three things: his integrity in public service, his contribution to strengthening the judiciary, and his role in promoting unity and reconciliation in Northern Uganda.
I also reminded wananchi that Uganda’s transformation will come from households engaging in wealth creation. Through intensive agriculture and enterprises such as poultry, dairy, coffee, fruits and fish farming, even families with small pieces of land can generate income.
The Ministry of Education & Sports is prioritizing the TVET Act 2025 to boost skills development and equip graduates for the competitive job market.

At least 49 villages around Isimba Hydropower Plant in Kayunga District have been connected to electricity. The connections are part of the Community Development Action Plan (CAP), an initiative by the Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) that seeks to mitigate some of the social challenges that arose from the development of Isimba Dam in communities of Kayunga and Kamuli Districts.
