Hello Amy, it had more to do with geographical diversity and resources. Nevertheless, the Electoral College makes perfect sense when considering these things: Think of each state as an entity that may vary slightly in culture, natural resources, and needs. The contributions made by each state to the Union, the collective United States will also vary. Now, suppose that because of the weather, 60% of people in the US reside in California. Due to culture and lifestyle, even these people's basic needs may differ from those in other parts of the country. Because of the sheer volume of people living in California, stricter water usage and power guidelines must be implemented. People living in Alaska don't face the same challenges and have embraced a slightly different culture because of climate and viewer people. As you know, the founders devised a brilliant solution to address the many challenges faced by each state and that of the Union. The people in each state elect legislators to go to Washington to convey the people's needs and wants from within their state. They fight for their constituents. Each state must have a voice in Washington regardless of how many people live within a state. So, doesn't it make sense that each state has a voice when electing the Commander and Chief to oversee our security from one border to the next and the needs of all the people? If you agree with this, you must also agree that for each state to have a voice, we would never be able to elect our president based on a populous vote. If we did using my elementary example here, California and only California alone would elect the president every election cycle. I believe we can improve the Electoral College, but we face far greater challenges at the moment.

Hi Dave. While some things you have stated have merit, I believe the idea of allowing legislators to make all our decisions is, in part, responsible for many issues this country faces. The governor of my state, as well as its senators and congressmen, work for me and every other citizen in this state. We do not elect legislators to take it upon themselves to legislate as they see fit. We elect them to ensure they do what is in the best interest of the citizens they represent. If we are not participating, phoning them, sending them emails telling them what we want, and holding them accountable, they don't have much choice but to do as they see fit.

Still, the Keystone pipeline employed more than fifteen hundred new workers to start, and it would have employed as many as 10,000 to 12,000 high-paying jobs within the following two years. Fact. So, you can see how lame your reply was. It is not just about our oil supply but about having higher production to become a prominent oil producer for other countries, creating energy, and creating more wealth in America. I do not mind educating people; however, replying to my comments with lies about ISIS killing eight people in NY under Trump's watch is annoying.
