🔥 Hot take 🔥 (and this is the hopefully the last thing I’m going to say on Skinner for a long time.)
Pittsburg Penguins management playing Stuart Skinner in his very first game against the Edmonton Oilers was great entertainment BUT an absolutely piss poor management decision.
- You know Leon is going to hit 1000 on him
- You know he’s struggled this year and still needs to find his game
- You know he’s adjusting to a new team (doesn’t even have Pens equipment)
- He said that he could barely focus for the first 5-10 mins of the game
- He met his old team in the hallway before the game
- You know he’s emotional, from Edmonton and his family is still there
- You know the goaltending position is a mentally taxing position
Don’t do that to a player. It was such a low-reward high-risk choice. That was completely on them and I believe they chose ticket sales > player.
Makes me wonder if he will sign an extension or look elsewhere. And as much as I thought Skinner was not a fit here, I hate that they put him in that position.
