Per the report there are high levels of lead contamination in Tumeric with greater Accra and central region recording the highest levels of contamination.

Cereal mixes like tom brown recorded 29% contaminated rate for cadimum, with Northeast, western north and Oti regions being the most affected.

The report also revealed that bentonite clay (Ayilor) recorded a 24.62 percent contamination rate for lead notably in the Northeast and Greater Accra regions.

Cadmium is a toxic heavy metal like mercury that can be released through mining. The health effects associated with it are kidney damage, bone weakening, cancer risk, developmental problems in children.

Lead like cadmium is a highly toxic heavy metal with no safe level of exposure in the human body. What is affects is every organ system including the nervous system.
