Economist, once upon a time maths tutor, business incubator, Stoic, Christian (not so sure about Church), compassionate but tough Conservative (Oh yes!)
Given that Starmer wants to care for the Nowak family, laying publicly into Elon Musk today is off the radar. I hope the family have been sensible enough to do a total media blackout.
@MarekNovotny2@spectator We have a photo of me dining out with my parents, aged about 4. I let the grownups talk, had good table manners and could sit properly. Having said that, in my bit of Petersfield the children are friendly and well behaved but not in other bits.
UK inflation was down in April, but is about to surge to 5pc and beyond – which will have seismic economic and political consequences
My latest weekly "Economic Agenda" column in today's @Telegraph

@PJTheEconomist We definitely don't. I lost my Sainsbury's over 70 priority spot taken over by the NHS during covid, and nearly starved. Command economies do not work.
@NMBLAKE@James_JosephTDL I have to be OK and I am. We adult carers save lives and Celeste was right to speak it as it is. Trying to rubbish her upbringing was shocking. Do look at Martin Cosser, who has turned tragedy to real good action.
@NMBLAKE@James_JosephTDL Simplest solution for me was to block Emma, not sure why she was in my feed anyway. Celeste's evidence would resonate with many adult carers.
Civil servant pensions exceed £150,000 a year
Taxpayers to foot £7bn bill this year alone for ‘out of control’ Civil Service pension scheme. It's a disgrace, meanwhile the state pension is a pitance & the audacity of @RachelReevesMP
to increase the age again to 67yrs so people keep working to pay for these scandalous gold plated pensions they can only dream of. https://t.co/u3st0TqWhq
@coatesaholic I don't think this woman goes short on telling us what she goes through. But to blame a parent of an adult is beyond and victim picking. Families go through hell mostly ending in suicide with no support. The court decided manslaughter for a reason.
@NMBLAKE@James_JosephTDL Well Emma was foul to Celeste. And she needs to hear the truth. What needs to come out of this is lives saved through mental health services that work. She lacks the empathy of living with a sick adult child and saving people on your own sadly.
Millions of unpaid UK carers ‘living in agony’
Lady Casey, who is leading an independent review of adult social care, criticised a system that “still behaves as if we are living in 1948 and not 2026” by relying on female carers to plug gaps in services.

When I was younger & caring for my schizophrenic mum, people – including family advised me to move out & ‘live my own life’, that she wasn’t my responsibility. I didn’t & then my mum died when I was 24. I never regret staying & caring for her. I would've regretted not doing so.
Why does @LBC keep referring to the Golders Green stabbings as a ‘terror attack’ when the attacker hasn’t been charged with any terror related offences? Additionally they never mention the role of NHS mental health service failings - that yet again have had a lethal impact! That is the real national crisis we should all be talking about!
@drsanjoykumar Surely you know that self harm can happen with little warning, people do not say I plan to do it like this on that day. And we families are so frightened we don't talk about it, but it is ever present in our minds. A real risk.
