Regarding affordability concerns, many things are true at once, as always:

1. Prices are indeed too high. Thanks, covid and Joe Biden!
2. The rate of increase in those prices has slowed dramatically since 2023.
3. Prices aren't going back to 2019 levels absent an economic depression.
4. The policies that reduce prices are generally deregulatory in nature, and can help in real ways at the margins, but nobody is talking about those solutions.
5. Instead of talking solutions, most people in politics are busily blackpilling.
6. Blackpilling about how young people in America in 2026 can't afford anything and are destined to live lives of poverty and solitude unless we YELL ABOUT AFFORDABILITY REALLY, REALLY LOUDLY is (a) untrue; (b) pointless, since no solutions are generally provided; (c) counterproductive, since blackpilling is often used to argue for the expansion of government, a la Mamdani (because DO SOMETHING!!!!1!!!); and/or (d) a populist appeal designed to relieve individuals of the responsibility to make good personal decisions by claiming that there's literally nothing they can do to mitigate costs.
