the pattern is painfully familiar. Look at most residential and commercial buildings in Pakistan—how many actually have functioning fire extinguishers, clearly marked emergency exits, evacuation plans, or basic fire-safety systems?

Unfortunately, there is barely any meaningful culture of fire and building safety, while corruption and negligence allow these failures to continue. Rules on paper mean nothing if they aren’t enforced.

We need prevention, inspections and accountability before disasters happen not suspensions, blame games and reactions afterwards.

Yes, Mustafa Kamal should resign. His response alone has shown a shocking lack of empathy. But then what? Another incompetent minister takes his place and we wait for the next tragedy? 14 babies did not die because of the failure of just one man. This is a systemic failure. Until we invest properly in healthcare, enforce safety standards, have functioning SOPs, regular checks, emergency protocols and REAL accountability when those systems fail, changing the person at the top changes very little. These families deserve more than a resignation. They deserve to know that what happened to their babies- force changes that might actually save someone else’s child. Keep speaking up for these families. They lost their babies to a system that was supposed to protect them. The very least we owe them is to make sure their deaths change something.
