It is a pity that some few individuals like former Deputy Mayor of Kampala City, Hon Nyanjura Doreen and the group are trying to apportion blame for the waves of arrests and alleged kidnaps or abductions which have rocked the country's security space in recent weeks on Hon Mao.

If, or should I say when, the current status quo changes in Uganda, we’ll have to live with its proponents.

Besides the very few members of the ruling elite who can flee the country, the vast majority of its supporters have nowhere else to go. Uganda is our only home. They, and their families, will be here.

It therefore behooves the supporters of the current establishment to take a long-term view, and to educate themselves, that patriotism is not a forced love of the country, but our ability to accommodate each other in our diversity - knowing that power is transient, a revolving door - and that our collective security lies in our abilities to accommodate each other.

Today’s Muhoozi’s are tomorrow’s Malyamungus (Amin’s dreaded henchman), today’s Birungis (now Otto -the (in)famous CMI) are tomorrow’s Rwakasis or Buturus (Obote’s vicious enforcers).

As Martin Luther King Jr. said, we must learn to live together as brothers (and sisters) or perish as fools.

It is a good case study in behavioral psychology. For years, the legislative majority watched in comfortable silence as the state deployed arbitrary actions, infinite investigations, and tactical isolation against opposition figures like Kizza Besigye, Eddy Mutwe, and Waiswa Mufumbiro. The unstated calculation was simple: compliance buys permanent immunity.

🔁 ➡️ ​Today, that illusion has collapsed. When an MP stands on the floor of the House begging the executive to "say something" about an insider’s legal fate, it isn't an act of BRAVERY. It is an admission of systemic terror. They are realizing, far too late, that when you dismantle constitutional protections to neutralize your adversaries, you strip the insurance policy from your own seat.

When the exterior perimeter of dissent is cleared, the machinery naturally turns inward to discipline its own ranks. True security was never about being an insider; it was about maintaining a strict, uncompromised fidelity to the constitution across the board for all citizens.

The investigation of the National Water and Sewage Corporation (NWSC) should be extended to upcountry consumers because I have personally experienced an inflated bill of 256k for one month and yet we are a family of six whose average monthly water consumption is about 50k !
