Hello, thank you for sharing the comparison photo. Yes, what you're seeing is expected. The Palma 2 uses a black-and-white E Ink display, while the Palma 2 Pro features a colour E Ink display. Because of the colour filter layer, colour E Ink screens naturally have a darker background than black-and-white E Ink screens.
Lighting conditions and camera exposure can also affect how the difference appears in photos, but in general, the Palma 2 will look brighter than the Palma 2 Pro. It's a trade-off of the current colour E Ink technology—users gain the benefit of colour while the background becomes slightly darker. Many users choose to use the front light indoors to achieve a brighter reading experience.
