I still don't think Gunil is a bad person. I think he's a regular guy who was going through an extreme situation, made a series of bad choices, and is now facing consequences.

I don't condone what he said but I also don't think that moment defines his entire character.

I believe that everything happens for a reason. If he was already at his limit, even if it's sad and difficult, it might end up being a good thing that he's out. If the pressure kept building up, he might have ended up blowing up, harming himself or others.
