It's not a secret that Helldivers 2 is a huge success for Sony especially on PC. The game set a very high bar for future GaaS projects from PlayStation and changed the company's whole live-service strategy.

@gldnhnd_spctra I don’t know, I was told that there are match modificators without any explanation, could mean day/night cycle, weather, different match-wide effects etc, can’t tell anything specific here, but it would be nice for variety.

It’s not a hero shooter. It’s not getting cancelled. Barrett was replaced by Ziegler more than a year ago. People can’t read and think.

Now a deep dive below. Marathon is probably the best existed IP to get an extraction shooter angle.

@Matta0121 I have no doubt it's in good hands. Valorant, love it or hate it, is one of the most succesful recent live-service games and it was shipped with Joe Ziegler behind the wheel, that's why he's in the lead in the first place. And Destiny 2's post-launch was, well you probably know.

@Matta0121 You're right. Same as in D2 you can play casually, you can play hardcore. People are also underestimate the playerbase it could attract, I assume EFT has around 100k+ peak CCU a day and Hunt has around 30k on Steam. I would avoid the word "massive" but the potential is obvious.

@Matta0121 Somewhere in 2025. Check older posts but keep in mind that the info there could be outdated since it's from around February and the direction has already took a slightly different approach. It's definitely trying to be innovative to the genre and more fast-paced than competitors.

@Bonnuuoq This is just what I heard about Marathon from different people related to the game. After seeing the headlines that it's now a hero shooter, I started my own research to see if it's true, that's the whole point of this post, the reasoning behind why it's not a hero shooter.

@blueisjaded I think that is what they're trying to do. The genre is still open, I mean EFT is too hardcore and complex, Hunt is on it's own niche and very different, GZW, ABI and DFHO are just straight EFT clones that don't bring enything new to the formula. The door is open wide to compete.

@solarphy This is due to total misunderstanding of what the game is. IGN's "selectable cast of heroes" has ruined the game's reputation quite bad since everyone started to think that it is an another hero shooter which is obviously not the case at all.

It’s a game with a good self-esteem, it’s not cloning or making a direct copy of any games, especially the ones that flopped horribly.

The gameplay reveal is around the corner and if they are not yet ready to show it themselves I’m pretty sure we’ll see a controlled leak to get the overall expressions.
