OUTRAGE! Golden Gate 26 defendants sentenced to 30 days in jail, six months probation
On August 21, a San Francisco judge sentenced seven people, the remaining defendants of the original Golden Gate 26, all arrested on April 15, 2024, for blocking the Golden Gate Bridge in a protest against the U.S.-backed genocide in Gaza. After a two-month trial, they were convicted on misdemeanor charges. Due to time already served, the sentences amount to 11-13 additional days in jail. The remaining felony charges—which DA Jenkins threatened to have retried after a hung jury—have been dropped.
Speaking of the harsh sentences, Deputy Public Defender Nuha Abusamra noted that usually even offenders with previous records get home monitoring or an alternative work program. “So I’m wondering, what is it other than their political beliefs?”
It is the crassest political censorship and intimidation of all who oppose the crimes of U.S. imperialism! The Golden Gate 26 should never have been charged at all or spent even an hour in jail. The convictions and the sentences, which includes a $1,200 fine for each, will be appealed. As one protester said, “My comrades are deeply principled people. And they are very brave people.”

I disagree with Marjorie Taylor Greene on a number of issues but she broke with the president of her party on Israel’s genocide [and the Epstein files] and paid the price for it.

Stanford 11 Victory: Zionist DA disqualified from trial
In a victory for the 11 defendants facing felony charges for a pro-Palestinian demonstration two years ago, a Santa Clara County judge granted their petition to disqualify DA Jeff Rosen and his entire office from pursuing the case because of his blatant pro-Zionist sympathies (See https://t.co/IccaQpSpkl). This ruling underscores what the defendants and their supporters have said all along: the prosecution is a politically motivated persecution of pro-Palestinian protesters and is designed to silence all protesters and dissidents against the U.S.-backed murderous genocide in Gaza.

Abolish the racist death penalty!
The death penalty is a legacy of slavery, the lynch rope made legal. Sixty per cent of those on death row are black and Latino.
There were 47 executions last year--the most since 2006. The speedup is part of escalating state repression coming down on workers, black people, immigrants and all the oppressed. The entire working people has an interest in fighting to abolish this weapon of the common class enemy.
