1. Palgiarism
When you copy and paste someone else’s original work even though you cited them. It can be images too.
It's an academic theft i.e stealing
If found guilty ( via Turnitin) you get a reduced grade and repeating this offence can get you thrown out of grad school.
Today, I join the league of my father, a Professor of French Literature.
As his daughter, I am now a Doctor of French Literature.
This moment is a full circle journey of legacy, passion, and perseverance. Growing up, I watched my father breathe life into texts, languages, and cultures. Today, I stand proudly on his shoulders deeply grateful for the path he blazed and honored to continue this tradition in my own unique way.
From being the curious daughter who listened attentively to his lectures to now earning the title of "Doctor" myself, this moment holds rich personal and symbolic meaning. I carry with me a degree alongside a heritage of scholarship, culture, and a profound love for the French language and its literature.
To my family, thank you.
God has been my ever-present help throughout this academic journey:
• Bachelor’s Degree – Obafemi Awolowo University
(Best Female Graduating Student, Faculty of Arts)
• Master’s Degree – University of Ibadan
(Graduated with Distinction)
• NYSC – University of Ilorin
(Recipient of the NYSC Kwara State Award and a Commendation Letter from the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, University of Ilorin as an Outstanding Corps Member)
• PhD – Purdue University
(Recipient of numerous awards, including the “Steps to Leaps Student of the Year” by the Office of the Provost; participant in the United Nations Graduate Study Program; and one of the Top 50 Finalists for the Global Student Prize selected from over 11,000 nominations across 176 countries)
This moment also comes with a mix of emotions. I am now officially done and unemployed with nothing concrete in view yet. Over the past few months, as an international student navigating the complexities of the job terrain, I have applied to over 400 roles across various sectors, sent more than 300 cold emails, and engaged in numerous informational interviews. Despite the uncertainty, I remain hopeful and confident in the value I bring to any organization.
My professional background includes working with the African Union, where I gained invaluable experience in policy, diplomacy, and international cooperation.
As I transition to the next phase of my journey, I would deeply appreciate any assistance in connecting to new opportunities especially through direct tags to HR professionals or influential Nigerians in the diaspora who may be able to assist.
I am actively exploring opportunities in:
🔹 Academia – Assistant Professor roles in French Literature, Francophone Studies, African Studies, Comparative Literature, Gender Studies, Migration & Diaspora Studies, or Postdoctoral Fellowships
🔹 Higher Education Administration – Student Engagement, International Student Programs, Campus Outreach, Study Abroad, and Global Education
🔹 Nonprofit Sector – Program & Project Management, Education Policy, Youth Leadership, Gender Equity, and Community Outreach
🔹 Think Tanks & Research Institutes – Research roles focused on Education Policy, African Development, Migration, and Social Equity
🔹 International & Multilateral Organizations – Education, SDGs, Global Development Programs, or Policy Advisory roles
🔹 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) & Social Impact – CSR Strategy, Community Engagement, and Impact Consulting
🔹 Bilingual & Cross-Cultural Roles – Cross-Cultural Communication, International Relations, Diplomacy, and Global Partnerships
(This list is not exhaustive!)
How You Can Help:
✔️ Know of any relevant job openings? Please share them with me especially those with personal referrals.
✔️ Have connections in these fields? I would be grateful for an introduction.
✔️ Can’t assist directly? A like, comment, or repost can go a long way in increasing visibility.
👉 I am currently considering opportunities in the United States or remote roles only.
I am excited for what lies ahead & look forward to contributing my skills to a mission-driven organization.
Thank you all for your support. I truly appreciate it. 💙
