As the month of June ends, we also recognize Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month and the importance of checking in with ourselves and one another.

Mental health matters. Strength isn’t about carrying every burden alone it’s about knowing when to ask for help, supporting those around us, and creating workplaces where every member feels seen, heard, and valued.

Today, we honor Juneteenth a day that marks the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates the resilience, strength, and contributions of Black Americans throughout history.

As union members, we recognize that the fight for freedom, equality, and justice is deeply connected to the labor movement. Juneteenth reminds us of the importance of standing together, advocating for dignity in the workplace, and continuing the work toward a more equitable future for all.

Today, OPEIU Local 2 proudly recognizes May Day International Workers’ Day.

May Day is a time to honor the workers who came before us those who organized, fought, and sacrificed to secure the rights and protections we have today. It is also a reminder that our work is not finished.

This year, In Los Angeles, California, Local 2 joined in taking to the streets for the May Day March, raising their voices for workers’ rights, dignity, and justice.

At Local 2, we remain committed to that same fight supporting workers everywhere as we push for fair wages, safe working conditions, and respect on the job.

When we stand together, we are stronger.

Today, we celebrate the incredible career and retirement of Linda Bridges, President/Business Manager of OPEIU Local 2.

Linda has been a proud union member for 40 years, beginning her journey in 1985 as a shop steward and executive board member. From there, she rose through the ranks serving as a staff representative, 1st Vice President, Secretary-Treasurer, and ultimately President/Business Manager.

Her leadership extended beyond Local 2, serving for over a decade as Secretary-Treasurer of the Metropolitan Labor Council, AFL-CIO and the Community Services Agency, MWC, AFL-CIO. She also dedicated her time as a trustee on multiple pension and health and welfare funds.

Linda’s commitment, support, and dedication to this union and its members have made a lasting impact. Beyond her leadership, she has been a passionate community activist, always working to uplift others.

Thank you, Linda, for your years of service, strength, and unwavering dedication. Wishing you a happy and well deserved retirement!
