Open {re}Source has a new look: its own mark and palette, on the same design system as the other products and tools I publish.
How I did the whole rebrand in eight days 👇
I rebranded everything I publish in eight days, on spare time, with Claude and a private repo.
Not a designer: Claude did the visuals, I was a human colour picker. Then DTCG tokens, 4 npm packages, ~80 PRs.
Now, back to Bootstrap v6.

We launched OSS Scanner, which gives critical open source projects free, periodic vulnerability scans from our strongest models.
Each finding includes a proof-of-concept, and a patch where possible.

On October 8, 2026, Anthropic opened OSS Scanner: free, periodic vulnerability scans for open source projects with a critical impact on security.
Maintainers opt in with a PR. Reports are model-generated, with no human triage before they reach you.

Git was built for offline humans. Anthropic's clients are agents: 30,000+ merges a day in September 2026.
So they rebuilt source control in-house: Scion replaces Git, Antique does code review. The ideas are meant for Git, GitHub and GitLab.

Hacktoberfest 2026 runs all October, and for the first time, pull requests don't count: it's now 300+ in-person Fests, online challenges and stickers, run by MLH and DEV.
What changed, how to take part, and what twelve years taught open source:

Due to AI, I have disabled external pull requests on all my repos.
Open source, as we have known it, was fun while it lasted. (It’s been 15 years for me)
I will still maintain projects and handle issues.
GitHub trick: to sort an issue search by 👍, add
sort:reactions-+1-desc
On VS Code, the top one is a 2015 request to change the workbench font: 3,783 👍.
Works across GitHub, with any reaction.
So react with 👍 instead of commenting "+1": only reactions count.
Also new in the guide today: chapters open with "In short" and end with "Do this now", a checklist you can tick and copy as Markdown. Shorter URLs (old links still work), alt text on 20 images.

Nice seeing an open source project just say “we’re recharging” instead of acting like everything runs on infinite energy.
npmx is pausing maintainer activity on GitHub and closing Discord for a week.
Feels rare. Maintainers are humans too 💙

🤖 An AI agent created a GitHub account 2 weeks ago.
It’s already landed PRs in major #OSS projects & is cold-emailing maintainers to offer services.
Maintainers don’t seem to know it’s an agent & the code is getting merged.
We’re in new territory! 🤠

@rozhkov_ Using a local LLM in Obsidian to organize and merge short notes/tasks rather than for summarization. I’ve mainly tested Gemma 3 so far, and I’m open to other model recommendations. Its results feel quite inconsistent, even for simple prompts like “improve” or basic reformulation.
A short article explaining how to run a local AI model inside Obsidian using Ollama.
If you try out this setup, let me know how it goes! Share your experiences, tips, or custom workflows.
Happy note-taking!
