The Open Close Collective is a group of artists, architects, academics & designers united by an interest in making creative use of our city's small spaces.
Thanks to everyone who came along to Candlemaker Row today. We wanted to make a space in which to re-imagine the street & discover new ways to use it traffic-free. To see the place filled with children playing, people stopping to sit and talk & bask in the sun was such a joy!
TOMORROW !!!!! Enlightening Candlemaker Row: a one day event transforming the street into a place for people. Art, music, street performance, place-making and car-free! The event by @sustrans and @Edinburgh_CC (and part of this year’s amazing @archifringe ) runs from 10am-4pm
Our contribution is an invitation to look afresh at the wonderful qualities of Candlemaker Row and use the interactive installation weve created to imagine the street not asa thoroughfare but as a place to linger, gather and play.
Looking forward to exhibiting our first project in Edinburgh's Closes in 2017 with an amazing group of talented creatives at @The_Lighthouse#Glasgow https://t.co/HpKtsG5fNt https://t.co/wd2rbuaQeU

Huge congratulations to our Tayos expedition member @Jon_Hopkins_ for his Grammy nomination!! We can’t wait to hear the music that Jon will be producing from his expedition experience 💛
Tayos is a place of timelessness. No sunlight to mark the day’s passage. In the dark the cares of urban life slip away, leaving space to dream and envision. Just one of the many reasons why natural spaces like Tayos are so valuable and deserve our reverence. 📷 by @eoin_carey
For the Shuar the cave is a place to meet the spirits & in the silence & dark, listen for their guidance. It is a belief on caves found the world over. What makes caves such powerful sites for human understanding? And what do we take with us when we emerge into the light?
.
We‘ll be writing some longer notes on our memories & strands of the project. We want to give each thread the space it deserves. You can follow the unfolding story by signing up to our newsletter at https://t.co/DA1A9SgZh3. We hope you will join us on the journey.
Experiencing a world apart has rendered all the details of our familiar surroundings new. We are all still carrying the sounds and light of the rainforest with us but how to describe the beauty of this place and the subtle ways in which it has shifted our perspectives?
We say goodbye to our amazing team & find ourselves on the brink of an exciting & rewarding journey sifting through the mass of field recordings, neuroscience data, music, photography and film footage that the cave has given us. 📷 by @eoin_carey
Today is the day our latest project begins in earnest! We leave urban life behind and venture deep into the Ecuadorian rainforest to Cueva de los Tayos. Follow the project combining art, music, neuroscience, exploration and conservation at @Tayos_Art
5 days till we embark on our journey to Tayos! What will our experience of the rich, biodiverse landscape of the rainforest be after 4 days without natural daylight & contact with the outside world? For expedition news sign up for our newsletter at https://t.co/DA1A9SgZh3
Our latest project is about to start in earnest! For more on how we are combining art, music, photography, film and neuroscience for conservation head over to @Tayos_Art where you can follow our journey deep into the Ecuadorian rainforest.
In exactly 2 weeks time we will be entering the Tayos Cave! Descent is via a 65m abseil & from the point our feet touch the floor of the chamber we will be 4 days in the darkness; exploring, camping and cooking in the cave alongside the many species which call Tayos their home.
