What "native" means: instead of building the app as a web page and wrapping it in a browser, we wrote it as a normal program that draws its own interface.

Logitech G HUB, SteelSeries GG and Razer Synapse are all Electron apps, which bundle a whole copy of Chromium inside each one. That's a big part of why they're so heavy.

OpenMouse Desktop is written in Rust and draws its interface directly on your GPU. No browser inside.

TLDR: many mouse apps are built as web pages that run inside their own browser window. OpenMouse is built as a regular program instead, so it doesn't need one.

@ruostu Razer and steelseries is pretty much bloat everywhere you look. Different services for lighting controls, etc.

Have to give props to GHUB though, easily one of the better vendor software’s

@moist_irl OpenMouse uses WebHID to talk to your mouse, which Firefox, Safari, and other non-Chromium browsers don’t support (Mozilla has declined to ship it over security and fingerprinting concerns).

There is no dirt here. There was a simple error during the Hypertunes testing phase that has now been changed.

HYPERTUNE properly credits OpenMouse, links to the AGPL-3.0 license, and publishes its source code: same terms as everyone else.

They came to us at the start of our project, looking to be partners and collaborate.

We're excited to be working with them and wanted to debunk the rhetoric that they were stealing our code and passing it off as their own.
