It is illegal for your security deposit more than 5 weeks rent if you earn under £50,000 a year! Your deposit also must be protected and kept safe in a TPD until your tenancy is over.

It is always worth checking the average price and rent of properties in your area, and having a discussion with the landlord. Any changes to rent must be included when signing a new tenancy agreement after a fixed term, and notice given.
