People are always quick to take the side of artistes whenever they are battling their label because they have fans and media attention which the labels helped them garner to start with.
Record labels are not charity. If you sign a deal complete it, renegotiate or ask for a buyout. Trying to force your way out of a deal is so rampant in the Nigeria music industry that people now complain there are no investors.
Most record labels don’t recoup on artistes and the few that are lucky to hit gold the artists tries to renege on their deal. Why will anyone want to invest in the industry when it’s mostly -EV and you’ll most likely lose your capital and investment.
A cursory glance at this particular case you’ll discover she left her initial label Richie Music Empire before the end of that contract and now she’s in legal battles with JTON Music. She adds to the long list of artistes in dispute with their label. Are these labels all evil and trying to destroy artistes that are legally still signed to them?
