One more thing.
48.9% of mothers with BPD were themselves under child protection services as girls (Quebec study, n=1,875).
The pattern transfers. If 87% of BPD is female, your daughter may carry traits you also carry, partially. And likely more than your mother did 30-40 years ago, because you grew up in a more emotionally absent generation than hers.
Recognizing it in yourself is the first protection for her.
What works: Dialectical Behavior Therapy — for adolescents (DBT-A) and adults. Evidence-based, reduces self-harm, suicidal ideation, and emotional dysregulation.
