Special Order of The Day - Almanza Day 25 April 1707. The War of the Spanish Succession, 1701 to 1714, was brought about by disagreement between the European nations over who should succeed King Charles II of Spain, who had died in 1700 with no clear heir. Yesterday saw 323 new Trainee Gurkha on their Attestation Parade in Pokhara, become part of the British Army. We wish them well as they now move to the UK and start their phase 1 training in Catterick.

Last week we saw 323 new trainee Gurkhas on their Attestation parade in Pokhara, join the British Army. This meant some mixed emotions for parents, brothers and sisters, as they said goodbye to those selected who are now either on route to Catterick UK, or about to leave Nepal.

Gurkha Recruit Intake 26 have now begun arriving in the UK, travelling on multiple flights from Kathmandu to Manchester Airport. From there, they continue on to the Infantry Training Centre in Catterick, where staff welcome them as they embark on their journey to become trained Gurkhas in the British Army. We wish them every success as they settle into life in a very wet UK.

Yesterday, The First Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles held the Kasam Khane parade for Recruit Intake 25 in Shorncliffe, Kent. A total of 62 new Riflemen formally pledged their allegiance to the Regiment, marking the culmination of their transformation from recruits to Riflemen.
At the heart of the ceremony stood The Queen’s Truncheon, the Regiment’s most sacred emblem, presented by Queen Victoria in 1863 in recognition of Gurkha bravery during the Siege of Delhi. As tradition dictates, each new Rifleman marched forward to the Truncheon during the parade — a symbolic moment that binds every generation of Gurkhas to their history, their Regiment, and their duty.
