Last week our team was excited to share research findings from the ongoing EDCTP3 -funded OPTIC-TB project, focused on strengthening paediatric TB care and improving outcomes for children affected by tuberculosis.
OPTICTB project: Healthcare professionals from 6 health facilities in DRCongo were trained on HIV screening among children under 10 with presumptive TB. This collaboration with the PNLS strengthens early detection, improves TB/HIV care, and builds local health system capacity.
The OPTIC consortium held its monthly extended meeting to review progress, address challenges, and align on solutions across participating countries. Despite regional challenges, teams remain committed to delivering high-quality research and advancing the trials in line with GCP

It was also a valuable opportunity to learn and strengthen networks.

The OPTIC-TB 2nd Annual General Meeting took place in Zanzibar, Tanzania (29โ30 April 2026), bringing together partners from Tanzania, Uganda, DR Congo, and Norway.
The OPTIC-TB team in Tanzania held a refresher training for health facility staff in Dar es Salaam to strengthen study implementation and data quality.
The interactive session reinforced key procedures and coordination among intervention sites.
