Today we say farewell to Lorraine Glancy KC and John McElroy KC, as Lorraine starts her new career as a Sheriff in Glasgow Sheriff Court and John in Dumbarton Sheriff Court. It is a sad day for all of us at Optimum and we wish them the very best for the future.

The appeals were heard over three days, 21-23 October 2024, with the Faculty of Advocates, Law Society for Scotland and Rape Crisis intervening in the case. A decision will be reached and published by the UKSC in due course.

Last week saw two cases considered by the United Kingdom Supreme Court, concerning issues of compatibility surrounding sections 274 and 275 of the Criminal Procedure (Scotland) Act 1995.

Our @wendyculross was part of the team for the first appellant and addressed the court on the practical realities of defending cases where sections 274&5 are engaged.
