People usually misunderstand what an aqueduct really is. They see the remains of these grand structures and go, “Well, yeah, looks nice, looks big.” But that’s only the visible part. An aqueduct is an iceberg of sorts.

New video! If you read ancient Roman texts, once in a while you probably stumbled upon a phrase “сhoose your own death” or some permutations of this phrase. People frequently misunderstand this expression. #AncientRome#Seneca

You all know the expression "all roads lead to Rome". It's one of those sayings that has managed to outlive its own literal meaning and become a metaphor. But it wasn't a metaphor a long time ago. All roads literally led to Rome. #AncientRome#RomanRoads

Gladiator II Review & (Historical) Analysis video is out! And yes, obviously, I'm very, very critical of the movie. It is quite atrocious, but I kind of expected this.

@carolbeck57@archeohistories Sometimes you can't even trust the information presented in contemporary sources. The outdated interpretation of gladiatorial combat in popular culture doesn't really produce a good story. It distorts our perception of antiquity, history of ideas, and evolution of culture.
@carolbeck57@archeohistories Of course you can't. Romans couldn't either, they were civilized people. Gladiators didn't fight till death, combat was scripted, etc. It was essentially professional wrestling. Although they killed animals every now and then (not unlike corrida).
New video! We're discussing the myth of Pygmalion, a hugely important one. It’s been reimagined in one form or another for centuries. Rousseau, My Fair Lady, any modern tale about androids. But the original myth is often misunderstood. #mythology
