🆘🆘 LEO (ID 239429), 2 YO, MALE – IN QUEENS ACC - came into the shelter as an aco - owner surrender on 5/16/2026, with the surrender reason stated as animal behavior - destructive tendencies. 🆘🆘 😿 😿 😿 😿
➡️TBD 6/23/26
➡️ NEW HOPE PARTNER RESCUE ONLY
➡️ 🆘🆘 1ST Chance on Emergency Placement List – VERY URGENT – 🆘🆘 😱🔥🔥😱
➡️ 37 DAYS IN SHELTER – TOO LONG – TIME IS RUNNING OUT
➡️ LEO IS ON THE EPL FOR BEHAVIORAL REASONS - While social in the care center, he displays signs of overstimulation during interactions and has a bite/scratch history. He is extremely intelligent and high energy, and needs to expend energy constructively with interactive play sessions 3-4X/day. In addition to playtime, this cat would also benefit from mental exercise from activities such as puzzle toys/games, lick mats, or clicker training. Without providing activity for his mind and body, the cat may react with rough play, potentially resulting in bite/scratch incidents. This designation often means that the cat will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.🔥🔥🔥🔥
For a New Family to Know: Leo generally behaves well around both of his owners and the people living in the home. He is a pleasure to have in our family. He is a sweetheart who displays a lot of kindness, consideration for others, and affection with respect to his boundaries. He is very friendly. He tends to like to be around, involved, and likes to sleep on our laps/feet and sleeps in bed with us. He tolerates pets very well and has acclimated to his feeding and playtime schedules very well. ❤️ 😻❤️ 😻❤️ 😻

🆘🆘 WINTER (ID 250119), 6 YO, FEMALE – IN QUEENS ACC - came into the shelter as an aco - owner surrender on 3/20/2026, with the surrender reason stated as animal behavior - aggressive towards people. 🆘🆘 😿 😿 😿 😿
🆘🆘 UPDATE – UPDATE – POOR WINTER WAS RETURNED TO THE EPL ON 5/26/30 – LITERALLY ON BORROWED TIME NOW – BEYOND URGENT – LET’S HELP HER GET SAFE 🆘🆘
➡️TBD 6/2/26
➡️ TOO LOW ON PLEDGES TO STIMULATE RESCUE INTERES
➡️🆘🆘 12TH Chance on Emergency Placement List – 12 TIMES IS ALMOST UNPRECEDENTED – TIME IS RUNNING OUT FOR WINTER – MORE TIME VERY UNLIKELY - ALL HANDS ON DECK - NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT/HELP WINTER - HIGHEST EU/SILENT KILL RISK- VERY LIKELY LAST CALL🆘🆘 😱🔥🔥😱
➡️ 73 DAYS IN SHELTER – TOO LONG – TIME IS RUNNING OUT
➡️ WINTER IS ON THE EPL FOR BEHAVIORAL REASONS - he is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. She has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. This designation often means that the cat will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.🔥🔥🔥🔥
A volunteer writes: Please see Winter with any questions, comments, and concerns regarding scheduling, policy, and programming. She's been here since March but that's not why she's been fast tracked to upper management. It's her skills! For consideration and approval, Winter utilizes a rigorous process that only she understands and because task delegation hasn't been a priority (please don't tell her I said that) we've been left trying to parse out the details. Winter knows who she is and we celebrate her confident stride, but just because she's a picture of self assuredness and leadership, doesn't mean shelter life has been exactly easy for her. We know Winter likes to be the one to make decisions but the Care Center doesn't always have a lot of opportunities for that. We don't know that much about her life before, but Winter isn't a fan of other cats and is hoping her next role will be supervising a family. Winter is now beginning to accept treats and she has responded positively to gabapentin. ❤️ 😻❤️ 😻❤️ 😻

🆘🆘 WITH SO MANY CATS ONTHE EPL - THE MEDICAL KITTIES ARE WAAAAYYY BEHIND ON PLEDGES - PLEASE CONSIDER THEM:🆘🆘
1. BATMAN - Batman has neurologic abnormalities that could be consistent with cerebellar hypoplasia, but we are unable to confirm in shelter. He also was noted to have stomatitis. Behaviorally, Batman is fearful, but has allowed handling. This evaluation/diagnosis means that BATMAN will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.🔥🔥🔥🔥
2. GINGER SPICE - Ginger Spice has a luxated right hip and is obese, which makes recovery tricky. It would be ideal for him to see an orthopedic surgeon to discuss options as surgery will be ideal. Weight loss will also be necessary. Behaviorally, Ginger Spice is timid, but has allowed all medical handling. This evaluation/diagnosis means that will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
3. MEECHY - She is a sweet, senior cat with an upper respiratory tract infection and severe dental disease. She is not eating and needs supportive care in a veterinary clinic to clear her infection. Once cleared, she also needs dental extractions to resolve the inflammation in her mouth. NOT EATING IS A DEATH SENTENCE IN SHELTER. This evaluation/diagnosis means that MEECHY will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.🔥🔥🔥🔥
4. ELOISE - Eloise has a fracture at the olecranon process of his right elbow. He has been persistently painful and lame on that limb since arrival, despite rest and pain meds. Eloise would benefit from a consultation with an orthopedic surgeon to discuss options for recovery. Behaviorally, Eloise can get overstimulated and did bite someone when they touched near his fractured elbow. This evaluation/diagnosis means that ELOISE will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption. 🔥🔥🔥🔥

➡️ MEDICAL PRIORITY – NEEDS MORE CARE AND ATTENTION THAN THE SHELTER CAN PROVIDE – 😱😱😱

A volunteer writes: Eloise can stretch, he can twirl, he can ask for pets and he can see perfectly upside down. He can do almost anything now that he's healing and getting his confidence back. Seen limping on his own with a wound outside, Eloise was brought to us to help him get sorted and started on his next step. He introduced himself like he was in a rush to show me everything he knows how to do at the same time while simultaneously seeming bored with it. Eloise plays with just as much whimsy, stacking his toys between his paws while reaching for more. This doesn't quite sum him up, however, as Eloise knows there's more to life than his condo, just like he knows he can do almost anything. There's one pretty big thing he's missing and we think it just might be you. What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! I have medical needs that staff will address with you when you meet me. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy! I might need time to decompress in my new home - but cheek scratches and dry treats are my love language and how we will build our bond! Eloise appreciates attention and specifically head and cheek pets but appears somewhat fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. ❤️ 😻❤️ 😻❤️ 😻

➡️ 66 DAYS IN SHELTER – TOO LONG – TIME IS RUNNING OUT
➡️ MOMO IS ON THE EPL FOR BEHAVIORAL REASONS -He is not thriving in the care center and is deteriorating in the Adoptions room. He is now displaying more intense distance increasing behaviors, hissing and swatting hard when interaction is attempted. This designation often means that the cat will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.🔥🔥🔥🔥
A volunteer writes: I'm sure that there are plenty of things that Momo wishes he could tell us. Things that would help us to understand who he is and what he likes, but any variation of communication can be easier said than done when you're all on your own. Momo isn't exactly that, as we're proudly on his team, but he's still left us guessing quite a bit. Mostly what we've been able to deduce are things that Momo doesn't like. When I met him, he tried to politely decline my friendship by folding himself into the corner and flattening his little ears. Though Momo successfully made his point, I also know that he's been through quite a few changes recently through no fault of his own. At the shelter he tends to lean away or freeze in place in response to our outstretched hands and though he does allow some pets from time to time, it hasn't exactly been his thing. We're very sure that a forever family where he can be himself and communicate as freely as he feels will be the perfect fit. What my friends at ACC say about me: I am looking for a home with a patient person. I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. ❤️ 😻❤️ 😻❤️ 😻

🆘🆘 LOUISE (ID 239847), 3 YO, MALE – IN MANHATTAN ACC - came into the shelter as a stray on 10/22/2025. 🆘🆘 😿 😿 😿 😿
➡️TBD 6/20/26
➡️ 🆘🆘 1ST Chance on Emergency Placement List – VERY URGENT – 🆘 😱🔥🔥😱
➡️ 240 DAYS IN SHELTER – TOO LONG – THIS IS REIDUCLOUSLY LONG FOR SHELTER - TIME IS RUNNING OUT
➡️ LOUISE IS ON THE EPL FOR BEHAVIORAL REASONS - He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display challenging behavior during interactions. He is extremely intelligent and high energy, and needs to expend energy constructively with interactive play sessions 3-4X/day. In addition to playtime, this cat would also benefit from mental exercise from activities such as puzzle toys/games, lick mats, or clicker training. This designation often means that the cat will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.🔥🔥🔥🔥
My foster writes: Louise is the friendliest cat in town! He loves meeting new people (will run to the door to greet them), snuggling on your lap or feet in bed, chasing anything that moves (including your feet), and waiting patiently in the bathtub for you to open the faucet so he can wash his paws. When he's done playing he'll let you know a bit aggressively, but otherwise the sweetest cat! Biggest enemies are the vacuum cleaner and laser pointer. Will do anything for treats. My foster writes: Meet Louise (Lou)! He is a three year old male cat that is shy at first, but will quickly warm up to anyone with time. He LOVES attention, and will let you know if he's feeling lonely or under-stimulated. Overall, Lou is a cat that has come a long way from shelter to home life, and he's ready to give all of his loud purrs to his forever family Meet Louise! Louise arrived at ACC after being found near a hotel, unsure, stressed, and trying hard to protect himself in a scary new environment. While his first instinct is to hiss or swat when startled, Louise has shown us another side too - one that leans in for chin rubs, slow-blinks softly, and even rolls onto his side when he feels safe. He's smart, observant, and full of potential for someone who understands cats like him. My Ideal Home - Louise needs an experienced adopter who can give him patience, structure, and a calm space to decompress. He does best when given time to assess his surroundings and choose interaction at his own pace. A low-traffic home where he isn't overwhelmed will help him feel secure and allow his affectionate side to shine. ❤️ 😻❤️ 😻❤️ 😻

There are some animals who leave us scratching our heads, wondering how they’re still waiting for a home.
Butterkäse is one of them.
This sweet boy has so much love to give. He’s happiest when he’s curled up in someone’s lap, purring away and making biscuits. He currently lives in our colony room and gets along wonderfully with the other cats, but what he’d really love is a family of his own.
The biscuits are fresh and the cuddles are unlimited. Butterkäse is ready to go when you are!
we are in need of Chewy gift cards! we use Chewy for litter, medications, prescription diets, flea meds, and more
if you'd like to help out these freeloaders, we would really appreciate it!
