If Raman takes second and Pratt does not qualify for the general election, after days upon days of thinking he would, it will be the political equivalent of watching the Palisades burn again. If you can’t hold leaders accountable for their failures, then democracy does not exist.
It's hard to overstate how much of an outlier California is for its slow vote-counting relative to literally any other state or almost any other industrialized democracy.
Even if a Democrat is likely to win it in the end, the California governor’s race has been a fiasco for the party—“and in ways that reflect an ongoing dysfunction that has become a feature of the party in recent years,” @MarkLeibovich argues: https://t.co/531bBmeBRg
huge anomaly for the incumbent mayor of los angeles not to win outright in a bid for reelection. since 77, the only other example is hahn, and he was a democrat dragged into the general by another democrat.
In case you were wondering how much people in Pacific Palisades hate Karen Bass for allowing their town to the burn to the ground and how awful the "rebuilding" is going with her as mayor, Spencer Pratt is currently winning there by 46 points
Angelenos, while the run-off for Mayor will get outsized attention, don’t forget that LA has a weak mayor system.
The future of LA depends on whether Council candidates Tim Gaspar & Jose Ugarte and City Attorney candidate John McKinney prevail over their DSA endorsed opponents.
@LAMaterial__ A "good night"?! 😂She is the incumbent and 65 percent of the voters rejected her. A good night would have been winning, not going to a runoff.
“People in this district know the difference between rhetoric and reality,” Park said…“You all know who shows up in the hard times, and tonight we are proving again that common sense still has a place in city hall.” -@TraciParkForLA https://t.co/14itd962TN
What a disastrous election for @MayorOfLA. A runoff IS a defeat. She’s the incumbent and has a political machine backing her. Why didn’t she win outright? she ran a terrible campaign and is really, really, really bad at governing.
“You will likely hear from some big voices, some loud voices, that it’s crazy…that it takes this long for votes to be counted. I want to emphasize that it’s not stupid. It’s not crazy. It’s actually the law in California.”
In California they are NO LONGER ACCEPTING BALLOTS in Burbank at Lincoln Park because the box is full? They said they called the County 3 hours ago to empty it. What a failure @CASOSVote!
