#otd 6 yrs ago we posted the "Tumbleweed" tweet, which caused a national & international media storm & gained us £10,000 of book orders.

by Amanda Gorman
They say she is no more,
That there her absence roars,
Blood-blown like a rose.
Iced wheels flinched & froze.
Now, bare riot of candles,
Dark fury of flowers,
Pure howling of hymns.
If for us she arose,
Somewhere, in the pitched deep of our grief,
Crouches our power,
The howl where we begin,
Straining upon the edge of the crooked crater
Of the worst of what we’ve been.
Change is only possible,
& all the greater,
When the labour
& bitter anger of our neighbors
Is moved by the love
& better angels of our nature.
What they call death & void,
We know is breath & voice;
In the end, gorgeously,
Endures our enormity.
You could believe departed to be the dawn
When the blank night has so long stood.
But our bright-fled angels will never be fully gone,
When they forever are so fiercely Good.
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: pregnancy is not a walk in the park. It is a high risk stage of life, and anyone who thinks otherwise is misinformed. Dr. Janell Green Smith, a certified nurse midwife, tragically passed away from complications of childbirth. If someone with deep medical training and access to care is not immune to the risks of pregnancy, no woman is.
We need to stop minimizing pregnancy and stop telling women they should “just have more babies” while ignoring the very real medical risks, gaps in care, and lack of postpartum support. Pronatalism without maternal safety is not pro-life, it’s reckless.
@Tiana_Celine_23 As a man, I sometimes have to admit that when faced with these ridiculous forms of control, the existence of radical feminism feels necessary.
Does this policy apply across the board? Can I get an MD at Oklahoma by saying shit like "livers are livers because God makes them want to do liverly things"? That would fucking rule.
I’ll share a small part of https://t.co/UQ4RFIKUwO
Back in med school, I became obsessed with augmenting memory and dreamed of a Notion or Obsidian that completes itself. Today, we’ve built something close.
My self-awareness is sharper and everything feels connected. I genuinely believe AI does not replace humans. It amplifies us.
Huge respect to our engineers and designers who made this crazy thing real.
Bubbles are the episodic units of my life that the system interprets from my raw data. Clouds are the system’s questions, its hypotheses about who I am.
When I answer a cloud, it becomes a bubble again.
There is so much personal data that I cannot fully demo it. Wish I could. This system understands me more deeply than anyone.
Want to try it? Retweet and comment “memory.”
I’ll DM you an access code to skip the waitlist.
Wrong.
In 2003, NYC had a massive blackout, and while walking several miles home without a subway, my dad passed an ice cream store. Stuck without power and in throes of the August heat, they were giving away cones to anyone that would take them.
Of course, this had made them a very popular stop, and by the time he stumbled across them, they’d run out of everything but pistachio. He’d never had it, but figured a free scoop was a free scoop, and gave it a shot.
Today when he tells the story, he uses it as an example of how you’re never too old to learn something new about yourself. He was born in 1955, and I’ve never seen him order anything else since.
It took him 48 years to find his favorite ice cream flavor, don’t let guys like this make it take longer for you.
RIP Robert Redford.
One of my most-rented films was “Sneakers” (1992), a great computer hacking caper. He tracks down a super codebreaker (capable of taking down the Federal Reserve).
Incredibly stacked cast including Ben Kingsley, Mary McDonnell, Sidney Poitier, River Phoenix, James Earl Jones, Dan Aykroyd.
