I loved her interview, so I started translating it right away and screamed at the amount of text, but it's a good interview where I got to know her more as a "person". Please read this article

TWICE Dahyun : "Loneliness Is a precious time that recharges Myself"
A pair of wings Dahyun gently folds and sends to you, who say you’re not lonely.
GQ
Have you finished packing? We heard you’ve been preparing your luggage for the upcoming tour since November.
DH
That's right, huhahaha.
we leave tomorrow and return after 27 days, and I’m the type who feels at ease only when things are somewhat organized, so I packed little by little. 27 vitamins, 27 probiotics. (Laughs)
There's a type of mask that provides moisture, but the delivery was delayed, it arrived almost four weeks after I ordered it. I was really glad I ordered it early.
GQ
So you’re the type who prepares in advance.
DH
Yes. Also since I travel overseas often, I have a specific zone in my room where my suitcase is spread out.
rather than packing from scratch, I tend to refill the items that are already necessary in the suitcase.
Since I have to be away for a long time this time, I packed a bit more diligently.
GQ
It's already last year now, TWICE celebrated their 10th anniversary in 2025. Congratulations.
DH
Thank you. It’s something to be very grateful for. The fact that fans still come to see us and passionately enjoy our concerts together gives me so much strength. It truly makes my heart happy.
GQ
Every Friday, are you watching <Love Me> diligently as well?
DH
I’m watching it live without missing a beat.
Actually, I saw episodes 1 and 2 in advance in the editing room.
Then on the day of the first broadcast, I waited until pm 8:50 to watch it live, and as soon as it ended, I watched it again on OTT. No matter how many times I watch episodes 1 and 2, I cry every time. Especially because that day was the last day…
the last day between the mother and daughter. They argue, the daughter leaves the house, and the father tries to stop her, saying how hurt her mother would be if she left like that, but she just says, "Next time" and leaves. But there was no "next time" That was so heartbreaking. When the narration says,
"I thought there would be a next time"
it really hit me.
In our daily lives, we casually say "next time, next time" all the time, but it made me realize how important it is to cherish each moment. It especially made me feel the importance of family even more deeply.
GQ
You're definitely a devoted viewer. (Laughs)
DH
Yes. My heart ached. It hurt so, so much.
So while watching <Love Me>... I'm usually the type to express myself often, you know?
But I’m trying to express myself even more.
GQ
That was "Dahyun the viewer", how about "Dahyun the actress who plays Hye on"?
DH
This is my third project now (the 2024 film You Are the Apple of My Eye, and the 2025 film Run to You). With every project, you meet new people, and I've realized how important it is who you meet. Thankfully, I've always worked with wonderful senior actors, directors, and staff.
Since acting was new to me, I was nervous and worried, but they supported me, encouraged me, and cheered me on, which gave me strength and made me want to work even harder.
gQ
Since Hye on works as a publishing editor, we heard you personally interviewed a real editor. What were you curious about?
DH
I've never worked at a publishing company myself, so first of all, I felt I needed to understand the profession. As I read the script,
I kept asking myself: Why would she act this way? What might she be thinking afterward? What kind of person was she before, for her to say these things and feel these emotions now? I thought I needed to understand all of that first for it to come out naturally in my acting.
I asked around to see if anyone I knew worked in publishing, and luckily, someone did. So we met and talked for quite a long time. I asked about their daily routine from clocking in to leaving work, the process of making a book, how editors dress and style their hair these days, what they always carry with them, and the pros and cons of the job.
GQ
Is there anything you absorbed as Dahyun and applied to Hye on?
DH
Visually, I thought it would make sense for Hye on to wear blue light blocking glasses, since she's often working on her laptop and checking emails.
so I asked, they said they actually do wear them.
And Hye on is someone who takes responsibility for her own life.
Junseo, her childhood friend and unrequited love in the drama, is quite immature, but Hye on has clear dreams and goals. She works as an editor now, but she wants to become a writer someday. While reading the script, I imagined that Hye on probably loved reading books from a young age.
That likely led her to naturally think, "What if I wrote a book myself?"
When I asked during the interview why they chose this job, they said it was because they loved books. So I thought, as Hye on, I should really love books and my work as well.
GQ
You like books too, Dahyun. The advice you’ve been giving for a long time, "to think about reading just one page" is very useful.
DH
That`s right (Laughs)
If you think you have to read an entire book, it’s hard to even pick it up. But if you tell yourself you'll just read one page, you often end up reading one or two more.
GQ
After finishing the final shoot, which book did you take from Hye on’s bookshelf? Director Jo young min told you to choose one as a gift, right?
DH
first, I wanted to pick a book about love.
Because its <Love Me>.
Since our drama talks about love, I wanted to keep a story about love. The other one I picked was a book about loneliness. <Love Me> also talks about loneliness.
Like the narration "Loneliness is a shameful spot" there are times when we are lonely but pretend not to be, pretend to be okay.
But I think loneliness is an emotion anyone can feel. Going to a strange land alone to work, feeling lonely due to a sudden breakup with a loved one, or the loneliness of wondering 'Why am I like this?' when friends around you are succeeding and doing well while you aren't.
I think loneliness wears many faces.
You aren't lonely just because you are alone, and you aren't necessarily not lonely just because you are with others.
When I looked at the flap of the book I picked on set, the author said this: They are proud of you for picking up this book regarding loneliness. Loneliness, wounds, pain, these are things we actually want to avoid and cover up, but they are proud of you for opening the book instead of covering it up.
And they said the more you run away, the more it chases you. So I thought loneliness is something we eventually have to face. Anyway, what I find charming about books is that the book is always the same, but depending on my heart, depending on my mood that day, the words the book says to me change. I feel the charm in that.
GQ
Do you feel lonely sometimes too?
DH
Of course. Suddenly, unexpectedly, loneliness can come out of nowhere.
Sometimes after a concert, when I return to the hotel and rest, that feeling of being alone suddenly makes me think, 'I’m lonely' But I think you need to learn to enjoy loneliness when you’re alone in order to get along well with others too.
Time alone, that lonely time, can be a precious time to recharge yourself, to upgrade yourself for the next step. Whether you retreat into a cave with that loneliness, stay stuck there, or use it to discipline yourself and grow,
the feeling of loneliness itself is the same, but how you deal with it can be different.
GQ
What is Dahyun like when facing loneliness?
DH
I like being alone (laughs), and I like calmness and quiet, so even when I feel lonely, I can feel happy.
I try to enjoy that time. And the deeper you think, the more you realize there are emotions that end up dominating everything.
When that happens, I just go to sleep. Or I watch something fun, move my body, or eat something delicious for myself, something sweet or soft that I like. I don’t tend to hold onto emotions that make me suffer for too long.
GQ
If someone came to you wanting to understand the "idol world", just as you went to a publishing company to understand Hye on's dreams and reality, what would you tell them?
DH
The fact that they came to me and asked questions already means they’re interested.
If you’re not interested, you wouldn’t ask or come looking in the first place. So no matter what they ask, I’d do my best to answer sincerely.
First, I’d tell them to listen to their own story. Ask yourself: Am I happy doing this or not? Is it fun or not? This applies not only to being an idol, but to any job. You need to feel pride, fulfillment, happiness, and enjoyment in what you do, that's how you can keep going. If you’re pushed into it, if it’s not fun, not enjoyable, not happy, then it has no meaning.
GQ
you said books always stay the same, but what they say to you changes depending on your heart. What sentence resonates with Dahyun these days?
DH
Hmm…
"The only person who can protect me from being hurt is myself" I think it was from a book called <You Can’t Hurt Me>. It might have been a gift.
I found it on my bookshelf after a long time and started reading it again, and when I saw that line, I thought, yes, life is something I live myself. Everything starts from me.
So no matter what hardships, wounds, or pain come my way, how I transform them is my choice.
They say you have to love yourself first to love others. Life is too precious to spend not loving yourself, so I felt that I should really cherish, love, and value myself. I think the way to protect myself is to strengthen what’s inside me, so I won’t be shaken or bent by anything.
