Really surprised by how little people care about the digital control measures popping up worldwide, notably in the EU and UK, but also Brazil, India, etc.
Creating encryption backdoors, screening content for authorities review, or removing anonymity/pseudonymity online are MAJOR security risks.
- From a technological standpoint, the probability of hacking or unwanted leaks is CERTAIN over the long term, especially in the upcoming era of AI and quantum computing. All the more that governments’ digital infrastructure and processes are usually very bad at security (countless leak examples this year of government-controlled PII and health data in China, US, UK, France, Panama…).
- From a privacy/societal standpoint, working under the assumption that the executive/legislative/judicial powers will forever remain tolerant and operate along the freedom rules that exist today is a GRAVE MISTAKE. History teaches otherwise - again with countless examples.
The Internet is full of excesses and risks (including for democracy) and they DO need to be tackled - but most of them don’t require the level of control pushed by governments.
- You can prove you are above 18 without sharing your ID using zero-knowledge proof systems.
- You can provide automatic context on deceptive posts using AI (and algorithmically degrade their frequency of appearance using transparent rules) rather than jumping to content removal.
- You can have pseudonymity and still enforce accountability through individualized, judicially issued warrants rather than through pre-approved administrative procedures.
- You can protect kids from bullying and unwanted content through on-device detection systems paired with parental control without removing end-to-end encryption nor sending the content for external review.
- You should have systems that allow whistleblowers, political opponents etc. to have a voice while preserving their anonymity, especially in authoritarian regimes.
Terrorism and other major crimes are the edge case. For sure full encryption makes it harder for intelligence services and the judiciary to investigate. But does it justify to infringe the privacy and security of everyone? I would argue not.
It NEEDS to be difficult for governments to access people’s data. Otherwise surveillance outreach will inevitably increase over time, as there will always be good reasons to legitimise it. And I’m not even taking about hidden agendas. Basically, once the government has the data, it’s too late.
For the sake of society’s resilience to political change, people should stand for the most minimally intrusive systems on their data. Even if this comes with some drawbacks on fighting crime. Freedom is fragile and very difficult to bring back once it’s gone. Short-term evolving risks should never be sufficient to justify abandoning long-term core values.
@_jameslincoln@HubSpot Have you tried @twentycrm? Great open-source project. Notion-like design, highly flexible, super price-competitive and rapidly catching up with Attio
Last Friday, NetZero inaugurated its fourth biochar factory.
Located in Brazil's largest coffee cluster, this milestone is proof of NetZero's ability to quickly replicate its industrial model while delivering strong positive impact.

We are thrilled to announce the expansion of our biochar operations to sugarcane – the world's most produced crop, offering massive growth potential.
The construction of our first dedicated facility has already started in Brazil.

It was already clear that biochar had potential. The @XPRIZE Carbon Removal results now prove, with an unprecedented level of audited technical, operational, and economical data, that biochar along @NetZero’s model can indeed scale to the Gigatonne level in a highly efficient way. Huge thanks to the team of 150+ people who have worked relentlessly to reach this amazing recognition! And of course big thanks to our amazing partners for supporting us along this journey!
Beyond NetZero and biochar, a key learning from the selected cohort of winners (cc @mati_carbon, @VaultedDeep, and @undocarbon) is that hybrid solutions using nature+technology are the way to go for truly scaling carbon removal. Rocks and organic matter are some of the most abundant materials on Earth - let’s start leveraging them at scale to remove carbon and stabilise the climate!
We are extremely proud to share that NetZero is a winner of the @XPRIZE Carbon Removal - the largest incentive prize in history.
After 4 years of competition bringing together more than 1,300 projects, NetZero ranks second and wins $15M for its highly efficient biochar model.
"This recognition positions biochar as a vital solution in the fight against climate change and validates NetZero’s unique model to bring biochar at scale" said Axel Reinaud (@areinaud), Co-founder & CEO of NetZero.

University makes you I-Shaped (with poor practical skills). Fight it hard through personal curiosity! Be at least T-Shaped by the time you graduate, then aim for M-shaped ASAP (requires practical experience). To build a company, look for complementary M-Shaped as co-founders and high-potential T-Shaped as employees
Probably our biggest achievement to date!
An incredible work from our R&D team over 4 years to reach this integrated development of hardware and software. Unmatched performance and efficiency with massive replication potential – turning theory into practice!
We are thrilled to unveil Gen2, our new patented technology!
A cornerstone of NetZero’s scaling strategy, Gen2 is a fully containerised, entirely modular system that redefines the concept of a biochar-production site.

NetZero just turned 4 years old!
Since 2021, from Cameroon to Brazil, we have built, operated, and certified 3 industrial-scale biochar facilities. This is the fastest ever done in the biochar industry.
We are happy to welcome @innovxofficial, a Moroccan investor, as a new shareholder.
The announcement was made yesterday as part of the State visit of the French President to Morocco.

Everyone should watch this. The sustainable transition is ONLY a question of political willingness and business action. In order to achieve this in just 25 years, a dramatic mindset change is needed, together with a strongly focused effort on infrastructure. But there is no fatality for the future - it can actually be exciting and more efficient! All it takes is awareness, courage, and determination. This also means that, in developed countries, leaders who don’t seriously act now should be held accountable.
It's been one year since Tesla presented its Master Plan 3, 'Sustainable Energy For All of Earth', at the 2023 Tesla Investor Day. Here's everything Elon Musk said at the event.
