i can’t even explain how stressful it feels to witness what’s happening in Indonesia right now. how uncomfortable it is to see students getting harassed, old people being beaten, and a taxi bike driver being run over by a massive police truck (confirmed deceased now). silence will never be an option for me. i have a platform that i’m aware can help to spread the message, so please excuse me for not talking about kpop in this tweet.
i’m a child of this land, raised in Jakarta. i’m someone who showed up on election day, believing that my vote could help me wake up feeling safe, protected by the law. but this country failed me.
the new president, chosen by 58% of people just because he’s chubby, likes to dance, and is literally a continuation of the so-called pro-people last president, has failed every single citizen who deserves better. better healthcare. better wages. fair job opportunities. a better life in general. and the world also need to know that today’s victim represents something way beyond what happened just now. this is a country that keeps betraying its own people.
to you who read this, please help to spread the news that our government has betrayed its own people and turning their backs on us. don’t normalize violence. speak up for us because the government keeps trying to silence our voice and demonize our fight. let the people in power know that we refuse to be silenced, that every act of brutality will be remembered.
change will never come from silence.
