You’ve heard a lot about Umar Khalid through the media. But amid the media witch-hunt against him, there has been very little space for him to speak for himself, especially since he’s spent the last six years in jail.
So I want to tell you a little about my friend Umar, in his own words, as shared with his family and friends.
Hundreds of tribal residents along India's Ken River voiced anger over an $87 billion government project to link some 30 rivers nationwide, championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi https://t.co/uLWecp3ImJ
His name is Harsh an independent journalist.
Delhi Police detained him and even after 48 hr no one knows where he is.
Pls share this widely he was helping protesters who were being beaten up and raising his voice against this dictatorship govt.
@harshdelhise
Delhi Police broke down the door of journalist Harsh’s hotel room and detained him yesterday. Since then, his whereabouts remain unknown.
Where is Harsh (@harshdelhise) ? His whereabouts must be disclosed immediately!
This is the most horrific detention story you will hear today.
At 8 PM, this bus stopped at a community centre in Pandwalan Khurd (see photo).
Detainees fractured. Four minors present. Everyone barbarically beaten up. No lawyers allowed to enter.
This is how we got here. ⬇️
Tomorrow, 12th October, India marches peacefully as one to the Supreme Court.
Students, civil society organisations, Opposition parties: Please join us to defend our democracy.

🚨 HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION!
Delhi Police are taking protesters away in animal transport vans. Treating peaceful protesters this way is a blatant violation of their dignity and human rights. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!
Protestors bundled into barricaded vans meant for criminals or undertrials. Reports of protestors being beaten inside vans, their phones taken away. The Delhi Police's repressive measures seem to be worsening, even as right-wing mobs are given a free hand.
Yesterday, the nation's young came out in Delhi to peacefully protest. They came with love in their hearts, not hatred or anger. They were beaten, both by cops and BJP goons.
This is not the India we want.
Tomorrow, we will march to the Supreme Court as Indians, united beyond party, gender, caste, community and state.
Youth, all opposition parties, civil society groups, all those who believe in democracy and stand by the Constitution of India, will walk with us.
We will submit a memorandum to the Chief Justice on behalf of the nation, demanding an end to vote chori, halting of SIR and the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar.
Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Ajit Doval and Mohan Bhagwat cannot silence India's voice. These cowards cannot intimidate us. They will have to step aside.
We will march together, with love, brotherhood and patriotism.
Daro mat.
Tomorrow, all of India will march to the Supreme Court.
