@Palermo_seun From the responses I can see why we are backward as a country. So if they take your sperm to a herbalist without your knowledge it can alter your destiny? This is why makeshift churches and spiritual jobbers thrive in Nigeria.
I wonder why Nigerians discriminate against graduates from the National Open University of Nigeria ๐ณ๐ฌ
I have a masters degree in information technology from the national open university and I suffered discrimination.
When I applied for a PhD at the Ebonyi State University in 2017, I was given provisional admission, not because my GPA was not up to 4.0 or I did not have the prerequisite courses, but simply because I got my masters from the National open university.
The condition of my admission was that I would retake masters level courses again and then after one year I convert to a PhD from there.
One of my friends who I was admitted the same year said he wouldnโt be able to go through that suffering.
Well I accepted their offer.
I took all the masters degree courses I had taken before. Every single one of them.
It was very painful because I was also traveling from Owerri to Abakaliki for the program. That meant more time on the road and more money in hotel expenses and logistics.
But one thing with me is that I donโt back down from a fight. You want hard? I show up rock hard!!!
I started the program in 2017 and by 2019 I had finished both course work for masters and PhD and research ๐ค๐ค
I ran through all of it like a marathon and if not for COVID and ASUU strikes that kept us out of school for almost one year, I would have graduated in 2020.
I ended up finishing the PhD in 2021.
The funny thing is that the same Open University masters I was discriminated against was the same one I used to secure a fully funded PhD scholarship in the USA ๐บ๐ธ. No stress, no hassles !
People say you canโt be hired as a lecturer in Nigeria ๐ณ๐ฌ with an open university certificate.
Is this true?
I worked in a university with my open university masters.
What do you all gain by discriminating against NOUN Graduates?
Open and distance learning is a legitimate way of studying for degrees and qualifications.
The programs at NOUN are accredited by NUC
The study materials are great
The pedagogy is solid
It exposes you to being digitally savvy
It builds your confidence too and independence in learning.
Most professors in conventional universities adjunct or serve as examiners in NOUN
Why the discrimination?
