“@ABDanielleSmith knows this would have become the ballot question. And she will lose. If she loses this vote, this becomes a lame duck government. The UCP may exist as the government going forward, but it’s the beginning of the end.”

Together for Alberta
I am honored to officially join the Alberta Party as its leader.
Albertans deserve honesty, accountability, and a government that builds. They want stability, strong communities, protected services, and opportunities to thrive.
That is the Progressive Conservative vision we’re shaping for Alberta.
Together, we will restore confidence, reverse efforts that undermine our democratic institutions, and return normal, responsible government to Alberta.
This is our purpose. This is our path. And regardless of the name we carry, our movement continues.

Professionalism, Leadership, and Neglect
Today marks the first day of job action as teachers across the province raise serious concerns about classroom conditions and the lack of supports for students. I stand in support of educators and families, and hope for a timely, fair resolution to this difficult situation.
Unfortunately, this is more than a labour dispute, it reflects a profound failure of leadership by the United Conservative Party. From the outset, the UCP treated negotiations as a political battle rather than a good-faith process. Standard practice is to maintain confidentiality in order to preserve trust and foster compromise. Instead, the UCP broke that trust, rushing to the media with a distorted version of events designed to sway public opinion.
At the same time, they launched a coordinated advertising campaign vilifying teachers. The timing and messaging make clear this was a pre-planned strategy, not an honest effort to find solutions. After provoking educators, the government tabled an offer they knew would be rejected—then used that rejection to justify further attacks. Meanwhile, they unveiled a cabinet-approved childcare subsidy plan costing an estimated $200 million per month, clearly timed to coincide with the strike and shift the narrative.
Let’s be clear: it is the UCP, not teachers, using children as political pawns. Instead of investing in classrooms and improving outcomes, they spend public dollars on division and distraction. Their goal to “break the teachers” is about control, not resolution.
That money could have been better spent where it matters most: reducing class sizes, hiring more educational assistants, and providing targeted student support.
At its core, this isn’t about fixing education—it’s about waging war on Alberta’s teachers, students, and public education system, just as they’ve already done in healthcare.
Albertans deserve leadership that prioritizes students over politics, and solutions over spin. The time to restore trust, professionalism, and real leadership is now.

@GBobke36662@mark_dorin @AutumnReen Pretty sure you didn't read the article. There was nothing radical in it beyond this group who wants the AER to enforce existing laws in a transparent manner.
@maxfawcett My own personal opinion is that not one single company has brought forward an East Coast LNG project to positive FID. Why is that? The government's job is not to make a business case for a project. That is the company's job. None have done it.
@northernbear85@maxfawcett Why are you quoting Oil pipeline comments and West Coast LNG project comments to refute the economic case for East Coast LNG exports?
@WenBraun @TheBreakdownAB Exactly. It seems like the vast majority of the population no longer care about these types of scandals. It's like they are somehow just expected.
@mark_dorin@rebeccakschulz I could see municipalities impacted by zoning regulations which may need to be updated and of course by how to properly value the industrial sites for property taxes. And if sites aren't properly prepared for ARO then bankruptcies ensue with no property taxes paid (O&G 2015).
@mark_dorin@rebeccakschulz So the EPA and AUC need to check jurisdiction and the RMA should have already presented their position to the AUC?
This appears to just be more delays on a portion of the energy industry this government could care less about.
@maxfawcett based on the discussion on this post of yours, it seems there needs to be a tutorial on OAS, GIS and CPP given out to the majority of the population. I'd be included on this one. 🙋🏼♂️..and I thought I understood the system pretty well.
Honestly, is this surprising? Recall @BrianJeanAB ran for leader with a sketchy Thor actor in a skit that made no sense? Now his gov hands back $137M to the feds that could have been used for asset retirement. Add that to the $1B pipe to nowhere and $2B Green line debacle 🤦🏼♂️
Listening to Alberta Energy Minister @BrianJean on the @cspotweet show.
With respect, the man doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
Alberta doesn’t have an orphan well problem other than industry refuses to properly capitalize the orphan fund.
Polluter pay is the only way.
