Here is a claim that I billed today for a lifesaving medication, a generic EpiPen, thru Anthem Medicare Part-D. My independent pharmacy loses -$119.63 on this claim. This insurance requires this NDC (specific manufacturer) and is not paying me enough to order this medication. Other local pharmacies do not have this NDC and will not order it for this patient.

This is how PBMs negatively affect patient care every single day. This is a life-saving medication that this patient needs ASAP. The only pharmacy that will likely dispense this medication is CVS, because Anthem is owned by CVS, and they will reimburse them significantly more. This patient will likely go days if not weeks without this medication, if they even get it at all.

How much longer is Congress going to allow this to go on?
