Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon

Representing Pennsylvania's 5th Congressional District. Member of @HouseJudiciary @RulesDemocrats.

[Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon @RepMGS]

Throughout our history, the shining promise of our Constitution has been the promise of self-government—of, by, and for the people—where every eligible citizen has the opportunity to vote.  Despite the Trump Administration’s attempts to undermine the midterm elections with confusion or misinformation, our American electoral system is strong.

Tomorrow, I'm leading a Spotlight Hearing to explore how you can make sure your voice is heard as you cast your vote, and how election officials and volunteers ensure our elections are accurate and secure. Tune in at 2 pm. https://t.co/952MmVs7Fp

I am proud to have joined over 50 of my colleagues to urge DHS to protect due process for Ukrainian Temporary Protected Status holders.

Ukrainians to whom we granted refuge when they fled the war deserve a fair day in court, access to legal counsel and the opportunity to contribute to our welfare and theirs in the United States without fear of arrest.

We must stand with the Ukrainian people.

[Representative Val Hoyle @RepValHoyle]

I’m leading a letter with over 50 of my colleagues demanding that DHS protect the due process rights of Ukrainian Temporary Protected Status holders.

The Administration must formally re-designate Ukraine for TPS to extend this eligibility and allow Ukrainians who have fled war to receive protections here in the United States.

[Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon @RepMGS]

The nonpartisan civil servants who make up our federal workforce play a critical role in carrying out the laws passed by Congress and serving the public. As a member of the Federal Workforce Caucus, I was pleased to meet with members of AFGE Local 3631 for a productive discussion about the challenges facing federal workers in the wake of the Trump administration’s cancellation of their union contracts, and re-emerging threats to environmental protection.

[Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon @RepMGS]

I'm proud to continue leading congressional efforts to secure strong funding for the CH-47F Block II program and end the uncertainty threatening the future of the Ridley Park facility — but the Administration’s repeated attempts to cut the program are simply unsustainable.

For the good of our national defense, and our local workforce, the Trump administration must fully commit to the future of the Chinook program.

[Joseph N. DiStefano @PhillyJoeD]

Is Philadelphia's military-helicopter industry leaving? Trump's record military budget cuts Chinook and Grey Wolf. @B and @LDO aren't happy. @DaveMcCormickPA @DonaldNorcross @RepMGS trying to get $ flowing again. p.s., where's Piasecki? My story: https://t.co/2pUHzj0YeQ

[Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon @RepMGS]

I was happy to check in with the Rotary Club of Broomall for a conversation on issues affecting our region. We had the chance to discuss the funding we’ve secured for economic development at PhilaPort and the Philadelphia Shipyard, the ongoing challenges facing the Chinook program in Ridley Park under the current administration, and the robust security measures that protect our elections in Pennsylvania.

[Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon @RepMGS]

Wallet feeling lighter? It’s not your imagination. Since Trump took office, the average household in PA-05 has paid an additional $1,459 on housing costs.

[Pennsylvania Department of State @PAStateDept]

Secretary Al Schmidt held a virtual media update on preparations for the Nov. 3 general election. This was the seventh in a series of weekly virtual updates to be held leading up to the election.

[Katherine Clark @WhipKClark]

Raise costs on working families.

Enrich billionaires.

That’s the GOP agenda.

[Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon @RepMGS]

Research done by the PA Horticulture Society has shown that green spaces promote community well-being and reduce crime and violence in urban settings.

I'm so excited to see PHS’ successful vacant land project expanding to Chester with support from Chester Mayor Stefan Roots, Delco DA Tanner Rouse, and community project funding secured by my office.

Your vote is your voice, and our democratic process only works if you participate. Every American should be able to exercise their right to vote without intimidation, and state and local election officials should be able to run elections without federal interference.

Yesterday, I hosted a voting rights town hall at Villanova University. My team and I had the opportunity to hear directly from constituents and discuss a range of questions about voting rights as we approach the upcoming midterm elections.

[Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon @RepMGS]

When the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026 came before the Rules Committee, I offered Rep. Meeks’s amendment to block President Trump from waiving Russian sanctions. My Republican colleagues voted against it.

On Friday, President Trump did exactly that: issuing an EO that exempts Russia from the new sanctions passed by Congress last month, a dangerous decision that puts our allies at risk.

[Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon @RepMGS]

Straight talk from Rep. Beyer on Trump's most recent betrayal of Ukraine.

[Rep. Don Beyer @RepDonBeyer]

Trump just waived all of the sanctions on Russia provided for in the Lindsey Graham Sanctioning Russia Act, just as I and others warned he would.

Trump’s latest surrender to Putin again betrays our Ukrainian partners and defies clear congressional intent of legislation designed to punish Russia for its illegal war of aggression.

Trump has proven he will twist this law and abuse the powers it conferred on him, and while he has let the tariff powers lie for the moment, the law as written also empowers Trump to weaponize new trade authorities against our allies and trading partners.

Congress must fix this flawed law to stop Trump from capitulating to Putin and ensure that it truly supports Ukraine.

[Al Schmidt @Commish_Schmidt]

“When you hear about ‘early voting’ in Pennsylvania, or ‘on-demand voting,’ or ‘over the counter voting,’ what they really mean in voting by mail ballot—in person—at a board of elections office. All Pennsylvanians have this option with mail ballot voting.”

[Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon @RepMGS]

Big thank you to Rich Lazer and the @PhilaPort team for giving me a tour of projects and facilities along the Delaware River — from Tioga Terminal down to the new Cruise Terminal. Great to see so much progress happening already under his leadership as Executive Director! The Cruise Terminal alone is expected to create over 2,000 new jobs and generate an additional $300 million in economic output for our community.

Thrilled to celebrate the reopening of Sellers Ave Bridge today under bright blue October skies.

The bridge is a critical connector between Ridley Park’s southern business district and the northern municipal facilities, and it's been a real hardship for the local community and small businesses while it's been closed due to serious structural failures.

Today's ribbon-cutting was a real testament to the power of cooperation and determination among our federal, state, and local partners.

Congratulations, Ridley Park!

In recent weeks, I've heard from so many constituents that their home heating bills have skyrocketed this fall. Seniors and those on fixed incomes are particularly scared that they won't be able to afford heat this winter.

I'm proud to join @RepChrisPappas and my colleagues in demanding emergency LIHEAP assistance to help homeowners meet home heating costs that have gone through the roof since the President started his war against Iran.

[Punchbowl News @PunchbowlNews]

Rep. Chris Pappas is leading more than 70 Democrats in calling for $3 billion in emergency supplemental appropriations for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program.

I had a wonderful visit to see the latest developments in the revitalization of FDR Park and how the Community Project Funding I secured will be implemented! The wetlands restoration project is already a haven for birdwatching, and the new playgrounds, picnic areas, and playing fields are creating public spaces where friends and families from across our region can gather and spend time together.
