My first first-author paper with @BristolPalaeo colleagues has now been published! Using sedimentological and palaeontological evidence, we explore the timing of the Late Triassic (Rhaetian) transgression in the southwest of the UK.

A landmark moment for Cape Verde 🇨🇻👏
They have reached the knockout stages of the World Cup for the first time on their tournament debut.
A draw with Saudi Arabia, combined with Uruguay's defeat by Spain, was enough to send them through.
Two incredible days of science in Namibia—and the 2026 GSA Thompson Field Forum is already delivering. 🌍
Day one opened with a deep dive into the Ediacaran–Cambrian transition, with researchers from around the world sharing new findings on stratigraphy, geochemistry, and the ancient environments that shaped the earliest animal communities. From sea-level fluctuations recorded in South Australia to paleoredox reconstructions of the Nama Basin, the sessions painted a vivid picture of a planet in transformation—over half a billion years ago.
Day two turned to paleontology and paleoecology, with presentations on everything from the community dynamics of the Shibantan Biota in South China to new material of Treptichnus pedum from Namibia that may reshape how we define the base of the Cambrian Period.
The poster sessions that followed each day sparked the kind of conversations that keep going well after the session ends. Groundbreaking research. Exceptional fieldwork. And a reminder that some of the most fascinating questions in Earth science are still very much open.

NEW: In a stunning find, researchers from Oxford University and @unibirmingham have uncovered a huge expanse of quarry floor filled with hundreds of different dinosaur footprints, creating multiple enormous trackways.
Into the Conference League as the first Welsh side ever to qualify for the group stage of a major European competition - what a night for TNS! ❤️

Please welcome Ichthyotitan severnensis, a gigantic ichthyosaur from the latest Triassic of the UK!
The key - holotype - specimen was found in 2020 by fossil-hunting father-daughter duo Justin and Ruby Reynolds (Ruby was then 11!), who are co-authors.

We conclude that the Rhaetian Transgression impacted the southwest of the UK earlier than localities further to the east, where the beginning of the transgression is typically recognised as the basal Rhaetian Bone Bed.
